Salesforce powers some of the largest companies on the globe with its core CRM offering. The Connectivity and Edge teams are responsible for delivering many of the complex software products that deliver this experience to our customers. As our service and platform grow to fully embrace lights-out operations, single-click deploy to tens of thousands of nodes, and services that self-heal and self-optimize, we have to balance this with global scale and traffic distribution to enhance our end user experience.

Edge is hiring a backend Java engineer with distributed systems, micro-services, and public cloud experience to support this growth. The role will lead the design, development, testing, and operations of both the Edge Control plane service and the Edge Intelligence service. The Edge Control plane automates Edge enablement for our customers. Edge Intelligence provides Real-time analytics capabilities which is used to self-heal and self-optimize Edge and Connectivity services.

Some attributes of successful candidates

  • Experience designing, developing, debugging, and operating resilient distributed systems

  • Eat, sleep, and breathe services. You’ll have experience balancing live-site management, feature delivery, and retirement of technical debt

  • Experience with managing large, complex systems in the cloud.

  • Resolve complex technical issues and drive innovations that improve system availability, resilience, and performance

  • Excited by building reliable, self-healing services on unreliable hardware

  • Capable of driving and delivering thin slices of functionality on a regular cadence with data-driven feedback loops in an agile environment

  • Be passionate about automation

  • Create, maintain and share technical documentation used by engineers and other team members

Required Skills

  • 10+ years of engineering experience

  • Deep knowledge of object oriented programming and experience with at least one object oriented programming language, preferably Java.

  • Solid knowledge of Database technologies

  • Experience with Agile development methodology and Testing

  • Experience using telemetry and metrics to drive operational excellence

  • In depth experience of design patterns, data structures, algorithms, and concurrency 

  • Public cloud engineering on GCP, AWS, Alibaba and/or Azure platforms

  • Experience with container orchestration systems Kubernetes, Docker, Helios, Fleet or Mesos

  • Experience owning and operating multiple instances of mission-critical infrastructure services including, monitoring, alerting, logging, and reporting applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with open source projects

  • SOAP/REST APIs and general API design

  • Knowledge of network technologies, such as TCP/IP, DNS, TLS termination, HTTP proxies, etc.

  • Experience with Big data technologies like Spark, Kafka, Druid

  • CI/CD experience with Jenkins

At Salesforce, we believe in equitable compensation practices that reflect the dynamic nature of labor markets across various regions. The typical base salary range for this position is $172,500 - $260,100 annually. In select cities within the San Francisco and New York City metropolitan area, the base salary range for this role is $207,800 - $285,800 annually. The range represents base salary only, and does not include company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity or benefits, as applicable.
