What We Do

The Legal team provides legal counsel, manages compliance, mitigates risks, and handles contracts, disputes, and regulatory matters to support the organization's operations and goals. Legal Operations sits within Calm's Legal Team, providing cross-functional support to stakeholders across the business and maintaining primary responsibility for functional programs, legal project management, and operational excellence. Our mission is to act as enablers and serve as strategic thinking collaborators with the business. We play an active role in shaping and implementing corporate strategy within the various business units. Collaborating seamlessly with teams in Go-To-Market, Engineering, Accounting, Content, and Product, we engage closely to assess critical issues, solve challenges, and achieve outcomes that optimize Calm's growth.

We are hiring remote workers for this role in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York City, or Minneapolis areas. At this time, only candidates in these locations will be considered.

What You’ll Do

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Operations Manager to join our legal department. In this role, you will support the day-to-day management and efficiency of the legal team by overseeing administrative tasks, optimizing processes, managing contracts, and implementing legal technology solutions. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of legal activities, contributing to cost savings, and enhancing the overall effectiveness of the department. 

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is a dedicated team player with excellent business partnering skills, and brings a positive, solution-oriented attitude with a strong desire to learn and grow. Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage and streamline legal workflows and processes to improve operational efficiency
  • Assist in the preparation, review, and management of contracts and legal documents
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including finance, compliance, and IT, to ensure alignment on legal initiatives and projects
  • Maintain Calm’s IP portfolio and assist with enforcement of IP infringements
  • Provide support in managing litigations, including document discovery and cross-functional communications
  • Provide general administrative support to the legal team, including scheduling meetings and managing legal files
  • Opportunity to drive other complex projects that may arise relating to new business verticals or legal team initiatives

Who You Are

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in operations, corporate administration, regulatory compliance, litigation, IP, and/or privacy compliance
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and take initiative on new opportunities 
  • A highly motivated self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven capability in driving data-informed decision-making
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to explain legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to the right details
  • High energy, team-oriented and enjoys helping others
  • A can-do attitude and ability to efficiently and effectively manage competing projects and priorities
  • Enjoys tackling challenging projects in sometimes new subject area
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative in ambiguous situations

Nice to Haves

  • Experience within legal (paralegal, law firm, or in house) or business operations
  • Bachelors Degree
  • PMP or CIPP

Minimum Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience

Calm uses a geographic pay model that determines salaries based on the location where an employee lives. For this position, the base pay ranges across Calm’s pay tiers is as follows: $102,300 - $155,000 . The base pay range represents the low and high end of Calm’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, experience and other qualifications.

Calm uses employee zip code to determine which pay range applies.

This role is also eligible for equity + comprehensive benefits + 401k + flexible time off.
