Location: San Francisco, Denver, Dallas, Boston, AtlantaWho Are We?  About Airlock Digital:

Airlock Digital is a global leader in application control and allowlisting. We seek to empower every organization to run only what they trust and operate free from malware and ransomware.

With rapid growth across Australia, North America, and EMEA. We are committed to our core values, respect, determination, and integrity. We support a diverse and expanding global customer base. At Airlock, we pride ourselves on being a team of humble, collaborative, and driven professionals who support one another and share a passion for cybersecurity.

What We are Looking For:

We are looking for a Manager, Software Engineering to lead a small team responsible for Airlock Digital’s Windows, macOS, and Linux Agents. This is a player-coach role with a clear technical focus: you will remain deeply hands-on in the Windows Agent codebase, shaping architecture, implementing features, reviewing code, and resolving complex defects. You will also manage four to five engineers across the Agent teams, setting clear expectations, coaching performance, supporting career growth, and creating accountability for delivery.

The Windows Agent spans kernel-mode enforcement, a long-running user-mode service, local policy and data management, secure communications, and user-facing notifications. You will own its technical direction and outcomes across supported Windows environments. For the macOS and Linux Agents, you will provide people leadership and delivery oversight while partnering with engineers who bring the relevant platform expertise. Across all three platforms, you will work with product, QA, security, support, and cloud engineering to improve product quality and customer outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage four to five engineers working across the Windows, macOS, and Linux Agents. Set clear expectations, provide timely feedback, support career development, and build a collaborative and accountable team.
  • Own the technical direction and outcomes of the Windows Agent. Translate product and customer needs into sound designs and practical engineering plans while balancing near-term delivery with long-term product health.
  • Remain hands-on in the Windows Agent codebase by implementing features, reviewing code, fixing high-priority defects, and contributing to complex kernel-mode and user-mode components.
  • Lead Windows design, architecture, and debugging work, including difficult issues involving crashes, memory corruption, concurrency, performance, upgrades, system compatibility, and privilege boundaries.
  • Provide people leadership and delivery oversight for the macOS and Linux engineers. Help establish priorities, remove obstacles, and maintain engineering standards while relying on platform specialists to lead detailed technical decisions.
  • Partner with product management, QA, security, support, cloud engineering, and other stakeholders to coordinate delivery, manage risk, improve engineering practices, and deliver better customer outcomes

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • 8-12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience building native Windows software in C and C++, with strong knowledge of memory management, concurrency, performance, reliability, and low-level debugging.
  • Deep Windows systems-programming expertise across user mode and kernel mode, including Windows drivers or comparable kernel-level components, Windows internals, and security boundaries between privileged and unprivileged processes.
  • A record of designing, shipping, and sustaining security-critical endpoint or systems software where correctness, stability, performance, secure communications, and safe upgrade behavior are essential.
  • Proven technical leadership in a mature software product, including architecture and design decisions, complex production diagnosis, and balancing delivery commitments with long-term maintainability.
  • 3+ years of experience managing a small engineering team, including coaching, performance feedback, career development, delegation, and addressing team-health or performance concerns constructively.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, sound judgment, and experience working across engineering, product, and customer-facing functions in a distributed organization.
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or related field is preferred but not required; equivalent practical experience is welcomed.

Bonus Points:
  • Experience with Windows file-system minifilter drivers, the Windows Driver Kit, Filter Manager, or related endpoint enforcement technology.
  • Experience with application control, allowlisting, endpoint protection, EDR, anti-malware, or other prevention-focused security products.
  • Familiarity with macOS or Linux endpoint software and experience managing engineers working outside the manager’s primary technical platform.
  • Knowledge of PE/COFF files, Authenticode, catalog signatures, certificate-chain validation, publisher identity, hashing, or PowerShell enforcement mechanisms.
  • Experience with native Windows Agent technologies and deployment concerns, including SQLite or SQLCipher, OpenSSL, libcurl, Win32 services, MSI packaging, driver signing, upgrades, and legacy Windows compatibility.
  • Practical experience with WinDbg, crash dumps, Event Tracing for Windows, Process Monitor, performance profilers, or development across x86, x64, and ARM64.
