About the company
Our client is a robotics company.
The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Take ownership of mechanical subsystems for autonomous machines, carrying each from early concept to a functioning prototype. The job mixes design work at the computer with hands-on building and testing in a workshop. You will partner with colleagues across electrical, software and robotics disciplines to bring complete systems together.
What you'll do
- Lead the design of mechanical subsystems from the first sketches through repeated prototype cycles, selecting materials, tolerances and production methods.
- Create part and assembly models in CAD, supported by manual calculations and finite element analysis, with an eye to quick turnaround prototyping.
- Fabricate your own test hardware in the workshop with additive and subtractive machines and hand tools.
- Fit mechanical designs together with drive components, sensing, controls hardware and moving parts.
- Work alongside electrical, software and robotics engineers to combine everything into complete systems ready for field use.
Requirements
What we're looking for
- 2 to 5 years of experience in mechanical design.
- A record of taking working machines from concept through to functioning hardware, such as mechanisms, joints, drivetrains or grippers.
- Experience delivering hardware products within a startup or a small, hands-on team.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency with a mainstream CAD package such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360.
- Practical fabrication skills across 3D printing, CNC work and general workshop equipment.
- A strong ownership mindset: you drive subsystems from start to finish without needing direction.
- Authorization to work in the US.
Bonus points
- Background in mechatronic systems that combine motors, sensors or actuators.
- Familiarity with FEA or topology optimization.
