About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer for the Wealth Investment Management Technology (WIMT) Platform Engineering team to drive the transformation of Performance Engineering and significantly improve engineering practices by optimizing processes, streamlining workflows, and developing new capabilities. This role requires significant interaction with various technical teams to oversee all performance testing deliverables and activities for large, highly complex programs. In this role, you will:
  • Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
  • Partner with application, infrastructure, cloud, and network teams to establish performance and resiliency standards, provide expert guidance on architecture and operational readiness, and lead resolution of the most complex production performance and stability challenges
  • Own design and execution of end-to-end performance engineering across critical platforms, diagnosing complex application, infrastructure, network, and configuration bottlenecks; define tuning recommendations and architectural improvements to achieve scalability, stability, and reliability goals
  • Design and lead WIMT-wide resiliency programs including chaos testing, stress testing, load testing, failover validation, breakpoint testing, and disaster recovery exercises to proactively identify and eliminate systemic weaknesses
  • Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership and existing team on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership
  • Work hands-on with Performance Engineers to create Performance testing solutions
  • Work with CTO team to analyze results and debug various latency challenges
  • Create common Splunk, App Dynamics patterns, queries, and configurations which enables the entire Performance Engineering team to become efficient
  • Ensure software systems and applications operate efficiently and meet performance requirements by designing, executing, and analyzing performance tests
  • Guides team, provides technical direction, and acts as a mentor for other engineers
  • Leads the resolution of complex and unique technical challenges, often involving cross-functional collaboration and in-depth analysis.
Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 7+ years of executing and leading Performance Testing
  • 5+ years of scripting languages to create Performance testing utilities/reusable components
  • 2+ years of experience working with observability rules.
Desired Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of executing Performance Testing in Data Center migration programs
  • 5+ years of experience with like LoadRunner and/or Jmeter/Blazemeter
  • 5+ years working with App Dynamics, Splunk or Grafana
  • Knowledge of Network infrastructure, Firewall, and Load Balancers
  • Knowledge of OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) or other cloud experience like PCF
  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Position offers a hybrid work schedule
  • Flexibility to be on call beyond normal working hours
  • Ability to work additional hours as needed
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
