Position Overview

The Recruitment Specialist  will support Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT) in the development of tools to support the recruitment and retention of AmeriCorps members (known as College Access Mentors) for the College Academy program.

In an effort to strengthen the recruitment and retention of IYT’s AmeriCorps program, the Recruitment Specialist will be dedicated to expanding and building the College Academy program’s capacity and partnering organizations to effectively recruit and retain members.

The Recruitment Specialist will work with the AmeriCorps Team to expand community outreach, build social media presence through active posting and coordination with partner agencies, and promote the transformational impact of the program on populations with whom they work. Partner agencies will become more efficient and effective through increased community awareness, resulting in an increase in volunteer and national service participant interest, retention and new partnerships with institutions of higher learning and local business/foundations.

Identifying and implementing effective recruitment strategies to increase the capacity of IYT is a significant component of the Recruitment Specialist role, as are the creation and execution of retention strategies, planning for and hosting recruitment events, and developing ways to build and appreciate partnerships.

 

Responsibilities

The Recruitment Specialist  will provide capacity building support to the College Access  program, as defined by the achievement of the following outcomes:

  • An increase in capacity built
  • An increase in AmeriCorps member applications received
  • An increase in number of AmeriCorps member slots filled

The Recruitment Specialist activities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Be well-versed on the purpose of the program and its recruitment timelines.
  • Gather and maintain updated information on the application process and timelines for the program.
  • In partnership with program staff, conduct assessments  and develop a region-specific action plan to diagnose and treat the recruitment capacity building needs of the program.
  • Support program staff in identifying, developing and fostering partnerships to increase outreach to potential AmeriCorps Members.
  • Participate in any California Volunteers recruitment initiatives on behalf of the AmeriCorps department.
  • Expand community outreach through presentations at colleges and career fairs.
  • Ensure the program’s website is up to date for recruitment purposes.
  • Ensure the program’s service opportunities are posted on Volunteer Match/CV’s Californians For All platform
  • Ensure the program’s information on CV’s website is up to date and of a high quality
  • Develop other marketing materials for recruitment purposes.
  • Track and maintain data regarding progress towards achieving project outcomes.
  • Implement strategies to keep AmeriCorps Alumni engaged in promoting national service.
  • Conduct weekly check-in meetings with program staff to set goals and touch base on progress toward target outcomes.
  • Provide follow up information or support to potential candidates or applicants in the pipeline

  • Biweekly Living allowance amounts:
    • Sacramento and Central Valley
      • $1,250.21 for 40 hours per week (1200 hours)
      • $690.65  for 25 hours per week (900 hours)
    • Bay Area
      • $1,275 for 40 hours per week (1200 hours)
      • $704.35  for 25 hours per week (900 hours)
  • Earn an Education Award upon completion of program requirements
    • Eligible to earn up to an additional $4,546.50 towards student loans and college expenses.
  • Student Loan Deferment, (for all loans that qualify)
  • Leadership Development training that prepare fellows to be leaders in their communities
  • Wellness workshops designed to support fellows’ mental health, wellness, and personal empowerment.

*Mileage reimbursement will be provided for any travel outside of the assigned region. 

 

Term of Service: March 2026 – December 2026

The Recruitment Specialist  will be required to complete 1200 service hours upon end of service. 

 

Schedule Requirements: 35-40 hours per week; Monday through Fridays between 8:30-5:00pm, some Saturdays.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Experience with Recruitment and Talent Acquisition 
  • Bachelors Degree (Preferred)
  • Passion and commitment to IYT’s mission, vision, and values
  • Possess good organizational skills and complete paperwork promptly.
  • Have a valid driver license (preferred) and reliable transportation to travel to outreach and recruitment events
  • Ability to commit to meeting service hour requirements
  • Spanish language skills preferred but not required
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • At a minimum, be a high school graduate, GED recipient, working toward attaining a high school diploma or GED during their term of service.
  • Agree to obtain either a diploma or GED before using an education award.
  • Agree to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete Background Checks, including National Service Criminal History Check
