Who You Are

As a Technician in the Battery Operations group, you will be a part of the team that converts Sila materials into lithium-ion battery concepts by assembling and testing prototype batteries. You are an attentive, diligent, and curious associate who will help create and demonstrate the next generation of battery materials. You are someone who takes ownership of your work, strives for perfection and is passionate about achieving team goals and objectives.

Responsibilities and Duties  
  • Prepare and characterize chemical mixtures and other materials to be used in lithium-ion batteries
  • Assemble lithium-ion batteries and test them on battery cyclers, which include heated chambers 
  • Fabricate mechanical fixtures, undertake tool preventative maintenance, and perform cable management
  • Follow standard operating procedures while still continuously looking for ways to improve processes and operations
  • Wear PPE for work, which includes a full respirator 
  • Accurately record work and keep data updated in an online database
  • Manage inventory and maintain a tidy and effective work area
  • Work collaboratively with other Technicians, Research Associates, Engineers, and Scientists
  • Effectively communicate results to troubleshoot, correct, and prevent issues
  • Once fully trained and qualified, work 12 hour shift rotation schedule to support 12 hr/7 day operations
  • Work overtime hours if requested and approved by Supervisor
Knowledge and Skill Requirements 
  • Ability to work carefully and safely with materials and equipment
  • Like to work as part of a team while also capable of solving problems alone
  • History of consistently completing tasks efficiently and to a high standard
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and computer operation
  • Logical thought process and desire to learn; “can-do” attitude
  • Experience in ISO-9001 facilities, lithium ion R&D labs, or other electrochemical cell R&D labs would be nice
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Able to adapt work schedule as needed by the team to achieve operations targets
  • Repetitive use of hands - delicate to forceful handling of material
  • Able to lift, push or pull up to 30 lbs
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Able to work in a laboratory using glove boxes and fume hoods
  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection every day
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, and safety glasses

Please be prepared to share your preferred shift:

Front-End Day Shift: Sunday - Tuesday, Every other Wednesday, 6:00am - 6:15pm

Back-End Day Shift: Every other Wednesday, Thursday - Saturday, 6:00am - 6:15pm

The starting base pay for this role is between $31/hr and $36/hr at the time of posting. The actual base pay depends on many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. Base pay is only one part of Sila’s competitive Total Rewards package that can include benefits, perks, and equity.  The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for overtime. LI#RS1 LI#Onsite
