Company Overview

Ghost is an inventory distribution platform and operating system for modern retail trade. We partner with the world’s best brands to help them understand the true value of their inventory and route it to the right destinations globally. Ghost gives brands precise control over where and how their inventory is sold. Backed by top venture firms including L Catterton, Cathay Innovation, Union Square Ventures, Equal Ventures, and Eniac. Ghost has offices in Los Angeles and New York.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to own core accounting operations for Ghost's Finance & Accounting team at a pivotal stage of growth. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, you will own the general ledger, drive the monthly close process, and manage AR/AP and inventory accounting end-to-end. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants full ownership of how the books get closed.

You will play a central role as Ghost builds durable accounting systems, prepares for its first external financial audit, and scales its reporting infrastructure. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to have a real hand in shaping processes, controls, and systems inside a venture-backed company.

Key Responsibilities

General Ledger & Month-End Close

  • Own the end-to-end monthly close process, including the close calendar, checklist, and timely delivery of financial statements
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations, including complex or non-routine transactions
  • Maintain the general ledger in accordance with GAAP, applying sound technical accounting judgment to new or unusual transactions
  • Analyze account fluctuations and financial results month-over-month, flagging variances and trends for the Director of Accounting and CFO

AR, AP & Inventory Ownership

  • Own AR/AP processes end-to-end, including invoicing, collections, vendor payment cycles, and DTC channel reconciliations across marketplaces
  • Resolve complex customer, vendor, and reconciliation issues directly
  • Own inventory accounting, including costing, inventory movements, and reconciliation between operational systems and the general ledger; investigate and resolve physical-to-system variances
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls across AR, AP, and inventory processes

Audit, Compliance & Technical Accounting

  • Serve as a key point of contact for Ghost's first external financial audit, preparing audit-ready schedules, workpapers, and supporting documentation, and managing auditor requests end-to-end
  • Research and document technical GAAP accounting positions as new transaction types arise, partnering with the Director of Accounting on conclusions
  • Help design, document, and implement internal controls and accounting policies as the company builds out a formal control environment
  • Support tax and compliance filings in partnership with external providers as needed

Process & Cross-Functional Support

  • Identify opportunities to automate and streamline manual accounting processes, leveraging AI tools and modern accounting systems
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Supply, and EPD teams to resolve data and process issues at the source
  • Contribute to monthly management reporting, board reporting materials, and ad hoc analysis for the Director of Accounting and CFO

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, including direct, hands-on ownership of the month-end close process
  • Solid working knowledge of GAAP with experience applying it to real transactions, not just textbook scenarios
  • Hands-on experience owning both AR and AP functions directly
  • Experience preparing for or supporting an external financial audit, including workpaper preparation and auditor management
  • Hands-on experience with an ERP as a primary accounting system
  • Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills; comfortable working with large, high-volume transaction datasets
  • AI-native: comfortable using AI tools daily to accelerate reconciliations, analysis, and documentation, and actively looks to automate manual work
  • Comfortable being a hands-on doer on a small team; this role is about personally executing and owning the work, not delegating it
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain accounting matters clearly to non-finance stakeholders

Strong Plus

  • Inventory, e-commerce, or marketplace accounting experience, including item-level or high-SKU environments
  • Experience with Rillet or other modern, AI-native accounting platforms
  • Public accounting background (audit or advisory)
  • Experience in a high-growth startup environment

This role will be based in our LA office. Our total compensation for this position can range from $120,000–$140,000 base salary + equity. The actual amount may vary based on factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Benefits we offer:

  • Medical, Vision, and Dental with some plans covered at 100%
  • Competitive compensation and equity structure
  • 401K
  • Unlimited PTO
