If you’re passionate about creating industry-first deal frameworks, commercial counseling, and transforming the way that people go anywhere and get almost anything around the world, come and join this bold team.

This Senior Counsel will own and support a wide range of commercial matters, including drafting and negotiating new agreements that govern deployments across mobility and delivery use cases; interpreting, amending, and expanding existing agreements to support expanding relationships with AV companies, OEMs, fleet operators, and other ecosystem participants; and counseling business clients on data, intellectual property, regulatory, safety and privacy principles, including in global environments. You’ll also support related programs as a critical team member, working closely with cross-functional business colleagues to launch these innovative products and partnerships on the Uber platform.

This position is part of the Uber legal team and can be located in San Francisco, New York, NY or Washington, DC.

  • Be an active and trusted business partner to the Operations, Engineering and Business Development professionals that launch autonomous, fleet and electric vehicle products at Uber.
  • Deploy your commercial perspective in reviewing related products and programs to ensure commercial, regulatory, and safety considerations flow through those initiatives.
  • Support new product offerings that help AV partners on their path to commercialization and scale as well as new platform offerings, including drones, VTOLs, and other emerging transportation technologies.

Basic Qualifications

  • J.D. and license to practice law in at least one state.
  • Minimum of 8 years of commercial legal experience in private practice, in-house and/or government, including at least 1 year of applicable commercial transactions experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with autonomous vehicles, aviation, vehicle fleets, or on-demand mobility or delivery platforms.
  • At least two (2) years of in-house experience is preferred.
  • Commercial and contracting experience in a regulated industry across multiple markets, delivering clear, actionable terms for clients, customers and partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft contract language efficiently and effectively both with and without the assistance of templates or prior agreements.

  • Excellent business judgment and high comfort level advising business teams on a wide range of legal issues related to technology and/or software platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and highly collaborative with both business leaders and legal groups, with strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility, and partner across functions to build consensus.
  • Clear communicator, team orientated, and willing to take initiative while thinking two steps ahead.
  • Confidence and flexibility to operate in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Inquisitiveness, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address them.
