Kevala is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our Data Science team. This individual will help develop creative data-driven solutions to difficult and often unconventional problems; collaborate with project and product stakeholders to ensure the solutions are valid, appropriate, and delivered on schedule; and own development of these solutions all the way into production. The team works through problems that address all aspects of the electric grid: solar power, electric vehicles, energy efficiency, demand response, batteries, wholesale markets, and more. What you will be doing
- Exploratory data analysis on large sets of time series, geospatial, electrical network, and socioeconomic data
- Developing tools to clean and prepare raw data for predictive modeling and/or analytics use cases
- Driving the full lifecycle of predictive model development, including:
- Preparing and sampling training data
- Engineering and selecting features
- Selecting, configuring, and tuning algorithms
- Determining key metrics and evaluating model performance
- Developing unit and integration tests to ensure production quality software
- Deploying models into production
- Monitoring model performance over time
- Developing software methodologies for the behavior of distributed energy resources like:
- Photovoltaic solar generation
- Batteries, both for storage systems and in electric vehicles
- Demand response programs
- Energy efficiency and building electrification
- Writing research reports, whitepapers, and other documentation to explain how our models work
- Preparing bespoke data visualizations and visualization tools to effectively communicate complex data concepts and insights
- Collaborating with Kevala’s subject matter experts and product/project managers to ensure that we understand the market and our clients and that the solutions we develop are appropriately innovative and fit to purpose.
What you need to succeed
- Minimum 7 years experience in applying technical skills to large and diverse datasets
- Experience developing research questions and designing experiments to test hypotheses
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Deep technical and professional-grade Python development skills, particularly the Pandas, Numpy, SciPy, scikit-learn data science stack
- Expertise in SQL and working with data warehouses
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Collaborative mindset, curiosity, and eagerness to learn
The compensation for this opportunity includes a base salary range of $112,000 - $162,000, plus equity (stock options). This is our target compensation range and is subject to multiple factors, including level, experience, and location. As you go through our interview process, our recruiter will work with you to identify a competitive base salary within the proposed range and combine it with an equity package that reflects your excitement about joining Kevala.
This is a fully remote role which can be located anywhere within the United States. Please note that actual salaries may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, education, experience, and location.
