Company Overview

Reflex Robotics builds general-purpose, AI-powered humanoid robots for the toughest jobs in industry.

We’re focused on jobs that are genuinely hard on the human body: lifting 40-pound bags of dog food, loading boxes for an entire shift, and moving heavy materials from floor to high overhead shelves. Not just lightweight tasks in controlled environments. Actual, back-breaking work.

Factory and warehouse work demands more. The hardware needs strength, reach, precision, speed, and the battery life to be useful across multiple shifts. It also needs to deliver a clear return today, not in some hypothetical future. Our robot costs $32K at development volumes today.

We build the full robot stack ourselves, from cameras and compute to actuators, electronics, and software. Our custom-built supervision stack helps handle the hard parts of deployment, from real floor variability to keeping work moving without line disruption. That supervision also generates proprietary real-world data that helps improve autonomy over time.

We are a four year old startup backed by Khosla Ventures and a team of other great investors. Our team includes alumni from Anduril, Oculus, Amazon, Waymo, Skydio, Boston Dynamics, ASML, MIT, Jane Street, and Joby Aviation.

Key Company Beliefs

  • We are obsessed with shipping robots.

  • A humanoid robot is only valuable if it solves a real customer problem. Cool demos are fun, but reliable work is what matters.

  • Low cost is what makes widespread deployment possible.

  • High-quality, proprietary robotics data is the foundation of the next generation of physical AI.

  • Getting nerd-sniped by an engineering metric is way less important than solving our customers’ biggest pain points.

What We’re Looking For

We develop custom servo actuators, compute, networking, cameras, sensors, and power electronics for our robots. These systems need to be performant, reliable, cost-effective, and tightly integrated with the rest of the robot.

We are looking for a senior to staff-level electrical engineer to own the robot’s power electronics and power distribution architecture. This includes the battery management system, bus voltage switching, e-stop integration, precharge, cabling, motor inverters, and EMI mitigation.

You will be responsible for defining requirements, making system-level architecture decisions, and taking designs from concept through bring-up, testing, and deployment. You will also work closely with junior engineers and external layout resources to execute designs.

Some of the problems you may work on include:

  • Miniaturizing motor drives by reducing bus capacitance and switching-stage size without sacrificing efficiency or creating EMI problems

  • Designing the power system safety architecture, including safe startup, shutdown, fault handling, and battery hot-swapping

  • Designing and validating a custom battery management system

  • Improving motor inverter performance, reliability, thermal performance, and packaging

  • Diagnosing and mitigating conducted and radiated EMI across the robot

We love engineers who have built systems they are genuinely proud of, whether that is a shipped product, a difficult technical project, or something they built outside of work.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals

  • Deep experience designing power electronics systems, ideally in the ~48V range

  • Experience with motor inverters, motor drives, or similar high-current switching systems

  • Strong PCB design, board bring-up, test, and debug skills

  • Comfortable debugging power electronics with scopes, power supplies, current probes, and other lab equipment

  • Strong understanding of system-level tradeoffs across electrical, firmware, mechanical, thermal, and cost constraints

  • Ability to independently define technical requirements and make architecture and design decisions

  • Experience taking complex electrical designs from concept through prototype and validation

  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead technical work across multiple contributors

  • BS or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with low-voltage power electronics for robotics, electric aircraft, EV subsystems, industrial automation, or servo systems

  • Motor physics and motor control experience

  • Control systems or stability analysis experience

  • Battery management system design

  • Power system safety architecture, including precharge, e-fuses, contactors, and e-stop systems

  • EMI/EMC design and mitigation for switching power systems

  • Experience designing for battery hot-swap systems

  • Experience managing PCB layout contractors or other external engineering resources

  • Experience with DFM, supply chain considerations, test coverage, and production bring-up

  • Proficiency in Altium for schematic capture and PCB layout

  • Cross-disciplinary experience with firmware, embedded systems, or mechanical design

  • Experience managing or mentoring junior engineers

  • Robotics experience

Compensation: $180,000–$250,000, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
Come Join Us

Reflex is de-risked enough to see the hazy outlines of success, but still small enough that there’s enormous upside for grabs. This is a rare opportunity to help build a flagship robotics company from the ground up and to do work that will truly matter, reshaping what people believe is possible in robotics.

We love to see the things you’ve worked on. Have a portfolio or a project that people tend to say 'wait, you built that?' when you describe what you worked on? Share it. We’re looking for people who push past the status quo, are passionate at work and in their own time, we’re looking for people who want to win.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
