WHY BOX NEEDS YOU

Box powers how the world works together. Our Cloud Operations organization stewards reliability, scale, and efficiency across our platform. We’re hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our engineering-first FinOps team responsible for forecasting and optimizing our public cloud and SaaS spend, including emerging AI services. This team operates at massive scale and has a direct line of sight to business outcomes.

In this role, you’ll lead a high-performing group of mid-to-senior engineers and data scientists who build tooling, wrangle large datasets, and turn insights into action. You’ll own our cloud cost forecast, partner closely with leaders across the company, and drive proactive recommendations that deliver efficiency without compromising performance.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Own and continuously improve the forecast for Box’s public cloud spend and SaaS/AI services.

  • Lead an engineering-first FinOps team to build scalable tooling, pipelines, and models on GCP/BigQuery and Python/SQL.

  • Translate complex usage, telemetry, and cost signals into clear, actionable insights for executives and engineering partners.

  • Identify, prioritize, and drive optimization initiatives; influence partner teams and say no when needed to protect outcomes.

  • Establish operating rhythms, dashboards, and metrics that raise visibility and accelerate decision-making.

  • Coach and develop senior ICs; set a high bar for code quality, analytical rigor, and results.

  • Partner with Cloud Ops, SRE, Data, and Finance counterparts to align on plans, tradeoffs, and ROI.

  • Extend cost governance to SaaS platforms and AI services; explore pragmatic applications of agentic AI where valuable.

  • Manage and coordinate the team’s on-call rotation to ensure timely and effective incident response, actively participate in escalated on-call incidents to provide leadership and support, and drive improvements by addressing recurring issues to minimize disruptions.

WHO YOU ARE

We are an AI-first company. This means you approach your work with a growth mindset and find ways to leverage AI to help make faster, smarter decisions that will 10X your impact at Box.

  • 5+ years of engineering management experience leading mid-to-senior ICs.

  • Strong technical foundation with hands-on engineering background; fluency in Python, BigQuery and SQL.

  • Deep experience with Google Cloud Platform, or equivalent public cloud platforms with the ability to ramp quickly on GCP.

  • Proven track record managing and analyzing very large datasets to produce accurate forecasts and recommendations.

  • Demonstrated ownership and proactivity: you start conversations, drive alignment, and deliver outcomes without being asked.

  • Executive-ready communicator who can tailor complex topics for audiences ranging from engineers to VP/C-suite.

  • Background in FinOps, SRE, data engineering/science, or internal tooling for cloud platforms; experience with large-scale cloud spend required.
