This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business. Candidates must be willing to relocate to Warren, MI or Sunnyvale, CA in order to be onsite in a hybrid capacity.
The Role
The Senior Manager, ADAS Design is a strategic design leader responsible for defining and guiding the end to end user experience for GM's advanced driver assistance and supervised and unsupervised driving features. This role sits at the intersection of human factors, interaction and visual design, and autonomy technology, shaping how drivers perceive, understand, and trust automated driving systems. You will lead a multidisciplinary design team focused on in vehicle and ecosystem experiences including system status, supervision, handoff, and edge cases. Partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Safety, Legal, and Research, you will help ensure ADAS experiences are safe, intuitive, and scalable across vehicle programs. This role has significant impact on GM's safety outcomes, brand trust, and future autonomy roadmap.
What You'll Do
  • Define and lead a holistic ADAS and AV experience vision aligned with GM safety standards, brand values, and business goals
  • Oversee design for key ADAS domains including Super Cruise, lane keeping, adaptive cruise, takeover requests, and degraded or failure states
  • Establish scalable interaction patterns, visual language, motion, and multimodal cues that clearly communicate system status, limitations, and intent
  • Partner cross functionally with Product, Engineering, Safety, Legal, and Research to translate technical constraints into clear experience decisions
  • Collaborate with gmUI and HID design system teams to ensure consistency, accessibility, and reuse across brands and platforms
  • Lead and develop a high performing ADAS design team, setting quality standards and growing talent
  • Represent HID in readiness, governance, and executive forums to support feature rollout and change management decisions

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Science, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 7 or more years of experience in UX, UI, interaction design, human factors, or related disciplines
  • At least 2 years of people management experience leading design or cross functional teams
  • Proven experience designing complex, safety critical, or real time interactive systems such as automotive, aviation, robotics, or similar domains
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end to end experience definition, systems level thinking, and shipped solutions
  • Experience collaborating closely with product management, engineering, research, and safety or regulatory partners
  • Hands on experience with prototyping tools and in vehicle evaluation including simulators or test vehicles
  • Familiarity with ADAS feature sets, SAE levels of driving automation, and automotive safety or regulatory considerations
  • Experience contributing to or building design systems spanning hardware, software, and services

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Master's degree in Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Science, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, or a related field
  • Direct experience leading design for ADAS or AV features, driver monitoring systems, or complex in vehicle HMI
  • Experience working within large, global, matrixed organizations across multiple vehicle programs or brands, ideally in the automotive space.
  • Strong background partnering with human factors and research teams on behavioral validation and testing

Compensation:
The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position, as well as geography of the selected candidate. The base salary range for this role is $178,000 - $273,000. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
