About the Strategic Finance Team

The Strategic Finance team enables Mixpanel’s ongoing financial success and operates as a strategic partner to business units—providing analysis, frameworks, and recommendations that shape how we allocate capital and make decisions. This means creating visibility into our financial outcomes by running and improving tight financial reporting processes with all members of executive leadership. It means using these processes coupled with analytical prowess and strong communication skills to deliver keen insights upon which strategic decisions will be made. It means identifying key trends to support these decisions with constantly improving financial models. Through this, the Strategic Finance team guides the company through financial hurdles, fuels growth opportunities, and ultimately drives long-term success.

About the Role

As a Senior Manager of Strategic Finance, you will act as a financial partner to cross-functional leadership. This role has significant executive exposure. You'll partner directly with C-level leadership, own strategic analyses end-to-end, and translate complex financial data into actionable recommendations. We value candidates with strong analytical foundations—whether from advisory roles, operating environments, or a combination of both.

Responsibilities

  • Perform both strategic and tactical responsibilities—including acting as the strategic lead on high-impact projects.
  • Play a foundational role in building the Strategic Finance function, with a clear trajectory toward managing and mentoring direct reports as the team scales.
  • Build financial models and frameworks that inform capital allocation, investment decisions, and resource prioritization.
  • Provide accurate reporting that creates actionable insights and analysis to support decision-making processes.
  • Collaborate with all parts of the company to design and execute strategic initiatives.
  • Own and facilitate Monthly Business Reviews, synthesizing performance data into strategic recommendations.
  • Present analysis and recommendations to executive leadership with clear frameworks and supporting rationale.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing) to provide financial perspective on strategic decisions.
  • Drive continuous improvement through standard operating cadences.

We're Looking For Someone Who Has

  • 8–10 years of progressive experience across strategic finance, FP&A, consulting, investment banking, private equity, or related analytical roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to build financial models, business cases, and strategic recommendations for senior decision-makers.
  • Experience interfacing with C-level executives and presenting strategic recommendations.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, including forecasting, scenario analysis, and valuation.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to structure ambiguous problems and drive to actionable conclusions.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Track-record of collaborating with cross-functional partners to lead transformation and growth.
  • Highly motivated, innate intellectual curiosity, and a strong desire to drive impact.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.

Bonus Points For

  • MBA or relevant professional certification (e.g., CFA, CPA).
  • Familiarity with SaaS business models, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and subscription-based finance.
  • Experience with operational FP&A (budgeting, forecasting, reporting) and strategic FP&A (long-range planning, M&A support).
  • Demonstrable passion for the data analytics industry.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity.
