The Senior Operations Manager is part of the leadership team at Peet’s Alameda roasting plant in 24 hours manufacturing environment.  This critical role will be responsible for maintaining and improving the overall operations while improving safety performance, producing to meet strict product quality guidelines, improving service to our customers, improving cost performance while developing both people as well as process capabilities at the plant.  This is a “hands on” role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage a team of Assistant Manager(s), supervisors within the department to ensure production meets or exceeds Peet’s Safety, Quality, Food Safety & Efficiency standards.
  • Oversees the production processes & personnel in green coffee, roasting, packaging, shipping & receiving, to fulfil demand while optimizing efficiencies throughout the operation.
  • Manage and motivate employees to achieve results through servant leadership and effective coaching. Must be an effective communicator, capable of teaching and generating results while enhancing the work environment and supporting the Company philosophy.
  • Embed continuous improvements with the operational team and drive for Operational Excellence using stretch goals and key performance indicators (KPI) to monitor progress.
  • Leader of a Manufacturing Operating System (MOS) pillar, typically Autonomous Maintenance
  • Identifies areas of improvement in efficiency and waste reduction to make year on year savings.
  • Supports the development and execution of the annual operational budget within areas of responsibility.
  • Responsible for the overall departments’ safety, housekeeping, quality, productivity, employee conduct and performance influencing a culture change across the whole organization.
  • Works in conjunction with site leadership capacity expansion and capital expenditure plan with estimated ROI’s covering safety, quality, and efficiency projects.
  • Utilize the interpersonal skills necessary to effectively lead and gain involvement of team members and ensure individual and team levels of performance exceeding goals and expectations. Develop and maintain succession plans for all areas of responsibility to ensure sustainable performance for future years.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS degree in engineering or management discipline required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing/production/maintenance environment with heavy employee management, collaboration with other internal departments.
  • A proven track record of leading continuous improvement initiatives utilizing lean methodology, A formal training in lean/six sigma/Toyota production system would be ideal.
  • Experience and or formal training in behavior-based safety culture.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze, prioritize, plan, multi-function and manage time effectively.
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, production management tools, ERP (D365) and financial reporting systems
  • Self-motivated and goal-oriented; able to work effectively under pressure with high-energy, and proactive style; brings well developed sense of urgency to all work. Must be quality-minded, self-motivated, analytical and results oriented.
  • Familiarity with food safety and GMP standards, including AIB, FDA and HAACP are required. Experience with other regulatory environment will considered.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow written instructions in English.
  • Bilingual – Spanish will be an asset.

The target annual base salary range for this position is $149,000 - $170,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including the applicant’s qualifications, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education, certifications or licenses, other legitimate non-discriminatory business factors, and the geographic location of the role. In addition to base pay, individuals in this position may also be eligible to earn bonuses.
