Rockstar is recruiting for an innovative data platform company that builds secure, scalable systems for identity, access control, and data management. Their team of experienced backend engineers works on cutting-edge graph database technology, focusing on reliability, security, and performance.

Position Overview

They are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to build and scale the core services that power user controls, identity, security, secure content sharing, resource management, and data access across their platform. This role combines backend service development with contributions to Dgraph internals, making it an excellent opportunity for engineers who enjoy solving complex distributed systems and security challenges. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across the stack but has deep expertise in backend engineering, with strong proficiency in Go and Python.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain backend services for user controls, identity, and security across the platform.
  • Develop and strengthen secure content sharing capabilities, ensuring the right users have access to the right data under the appropriate conditions.
  • Contribute to Data Studio and related tools that expose platform data to internal and external users.
  • Work on Dgraph internals when needed while building services and applications on top of Dgraph.
  • Partner with platform, infrastructure, and integrations teams to maintain consistent identity and security primitives across the ecosystem.
  • Drive technical decisions around data access patterns, permissions models, and secure sharing architecture.
  • Write high-quality, well-tested code in Go and Python with a focus on reliability, security, and performance.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and technical planning for the data platform.
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant experience in backend or platform engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in Go and Python.
  • Experience building identity, access control, permissions, authentication, authorization, or other security-focused systems.
  • Comfortable working across the full stack, with a strong preference and expertise in backend services.
  • Experience with graph databases (Dgraph or similar) is highly preferred.
  • Interest in contributing to database internals is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, reliability, security, and performance optimization.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing within the United States.
