We are searching for a Senior Software Assurance Engineer on the Safety Case and Quality Management team who is a technical leader and go-to expert for Aurora’s Software Assurance. You will leverage deep expertise to lead the implementation and continuous improvement of our software processes, ensuring conformance with ASPICE, ISO 26262 and other industry standards.

Your insights will drive Aurora’s software process adherence, deficiency management, and quality reporting, forming the backbone of our software assurance program. The role requires a strong background in software assurance, audit, assessment and root cause analysis. You will collaborate with diverse stakeholders across Safety, Engineering, Operations, and Product to ensure the Aurora Driver is developed and deployed in accordance with ASPICE, ISO 26262, and Aurora’s internal quality standards.

In this role, you will

  • Drive development, documentation, and refinement of software processes, ensuring they are aligned with ASPICE, ISO 26262, and other relevant standards requirements.

  • Plan and execute internal audits across requirements, architecture, and test processes for ASPICE and ISO 26262 conformance.

  • Own the audit findings register; drive systemic corrective action closure and escalate unresolved non-conformances to leadership with recommended disposition.

  • Develop, automate, and maintain reports for our Software Quality Performance Metrics.

  • Drive the execution and continuous improvement of the Software Quality Deficiency Management process, ensuring all non-conformances are systematically tracked and resolved.

  • Lead and facilitate rigorous quantitative and qualitative analysis for critical quality issues and verification escapes, evaluating corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

  • Author and present technical quality analyses, audit reports, and process improvements to internal engineering teams and leadership.

 Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent applicable technical experience.

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in software quality assurance, quality engineering, or QMS process management.

  • Demonstrated experience in a safety-critical domain (e.g., automotive, aerospace, robotics, medical devices).

  • Strong understanding of Software Quality Management Systems; deep command of ASPICE and working knowledge of ISO 26262-Part 6.

  • Proven, hands-on experience in conducting process audits and leading structured root cause analysis.

  • Adept at querying, analyzing, and visualizing data to track and report on quality metrics.

  • Proficient in tools such as Jira and Confluence for deficiency management and documentation.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to various audiences.

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to provide guidance and mentorship.

  • Ability to work independently, as part of a cross-functional team, or as a project lead.

 Desirable Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a relevant technical field.

  • Familiarity with UL 4600 (autonomous systems safety) and ISO/SAE 21434 (cybersecurity) as complementary standards to ASPICE and ISO 26262.

  • Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., Jama).

  • Experience with AWS (e.g., QuickSight, S3, Lambda) for building quality metrics infrastructure.

  • Experience in developing process and training materials.

  • Experience supporting quality processes during a product’s transition from development to commercial deployment in a safety-critical environment.
