Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

The Community You Will Join:

Our mission at Marketing Technology is to provide a state-of-the-art platform and measurement capabilities to enable marketing and product teams to engage with our customers effectively. Every day, millions of Airbnb customers are reached via our streamlined platform over comprehensive marketing channels such as Email, Push, SMS, Google Ads, and Facebook Ads. We deliver substantial business impact by enabling numerous stakeholders across the company, including Marketing (Brand and Performance), Guest, Host, Airbnb Org, Policy, and more.

The Difference You Will Make:

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Segmentation & Insights Platform team, you’ll lead projects end-to-end and help shape how Airbnb reaches its guests and hosts. Our team builds the high-scale backend systems that segment guests, hosts, and other entities. These systems handle 100k+ requests per second and power marketing, in-app experiences, and many other use cases across Airbnb. We’re also building the agentic workflows behind the future of Marketing Technology and Airbnb’s autonomous Growth Engine. You’ll take on ambiguous problems across both areas, driving them independently from design through launch.

A Typical Day:

  • Scale the core platform so it stays highly available, low-latency, and observable. You’ll debug hard problems, find bottlenecks, and optimize systems to keep up with growing demand.
  • Build agentic features for Airbnb's autonomous Marketing Growth Engine, contributing primarily to campaign ideation and refinement.
  • Lead projects across the full development lifecycle: technical design, implementation, testing, experimentation, and production rollout.
  • Work with Product, Design, Data, Marketing Operations, and other partners to turn marketing goals into platform capabilities.
  • Partner with other engineering teams across Marketing Technology to build integrated systems.
  • Help teams across Airbnb onboard to our services by advising them on use cases, guiding integrations, and improving our systems so they’re easier to adopt.
  • Take part in on-call rotations, incident response, and post-mortems to keep systems that serve millions of guests and hosts reliable.
  • Use AI tools to work efficiently and run multiple workstreams in parallel, while still owning the quality, correctness, and long-term health of everything you ship.
Your Expertise:
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD, preferably in CS, or equivalent experience
  • Expertise in backend systems with large-scale service-oriented architecture
  • Experience building agentic systems or LLM-powered applications
  • Proficiency in one or more modern languages such as Go, Rust, Java, or Kotlin
  • Passionate about learning, driving impact, and moving fast without sacrificing quality
  • Strong communication skills with experience driving initiatives that cross teams, organizations, and leadership
