The Bank sponsors individuals for TN and H-1B transfers on a case by case basis. Please note that this position is not open to anyone on an F-1 student visa including those eligible for CPT/OPT or the Stem OPT extension.

Overview: Responsible at the advanced level for writing code and the team's technical requirements gathering, with expanded ownership of release engineering, integration delivery, and operational readiness for Commercial Lending's enterprise integration services and supported platforms, including Salesforce/nCino. Independently completes work following banking technology standards and contributes to the overall stability and resiliency of banking technology within the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Builds team capability by mentoring and onboarding engineers, including Technology Development Program (TDP) associates.

Primary Responsibilities:

Build & Integrate

  • Work independently within the approved SDLC to design, develop, and maintain Java-based integration services and supported platform components (e.g., Salesforce Apex/JavaScript) that meet business needs and reduce risk to the Bank, by writing clean and resilient code.
  • Write organized, clean, efficient, and secure source code at an advanced level in at least one programming language, verified by a lead software engineer. Apply appropriate data structures and algorithms to solve business problems.
  • Lead technical delivery of cross-team and third-party vendor integrations. Independently analyze and critique technical and business requirements for completeness, accuracy, and feasibility. Document and communicate implementation details clearly with other teams on dependent requirements, and contribute to architecture and design decisions.
  • Support cloud modernization of integration services, including migration-wave planning, dependency tracking, endpoint and connectivity validation, and pre-production readiness.

Release & DevOps

  • Serve as release engineer on rotation for scheduled, hotfix, and off-cycle releases. This includes preparing change records (RFCs, change tasks, RITMs), maintaining environment runbooks, raising sequencing or deployment risks before running a step, and closing out changes. These duties follow separation-of-duties controls: she does not develop, review, approve, and deploy the same change.
  • Use source code management and CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab) to manage and deploy code, ensure compliance with SDLC policies, and support merge conflict resolution. Regularly review pull and merge requests, give constructive feedback, carry out change management for the requests, and diagnose pipeline failures.
  • Build and maintain automated API and regression testing (e.g., Postman, Zephyr, or similar). Adopt AI-assisted and code quality tools (e.g., GitLab Duo, Copilot, SonarQube) to reduce manual validation and produce repeatable, auditable evidence.

Secure & Support

  • Remediate application and infrastructure vulnerabilities and certificate requirements. Validate fixes, attach test evidence, and recommend release timing against remediation SLAs.
  • Investigate and resolve production incidents using observability and diagnostic tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Postman, ServiceNow). Document root cause, confirm resolution, and help define on-call and escalation routing.
  • Apply access and privileged-account controls in non-production and production environments, and help define governed access processes for shared environments.

Mentor & Influence

  • Mentor and onboard junior engineers and TDP associates. This includes guiding them through environment access and operational procedures, reviewing their code and test cases, recommending and scoping work suited to their level, and connecting them with program forums.
  • Share delivery and change-management practices with partner teams across the ART to improve consistency.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation, including runbooks, integration designs, and operational procedures.

Standard

  • Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports a culture of belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities: No supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Associate's degree and a minimum of 5 years' systems analysis and/or application development work experience or Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years' systems analysis and/or application development work experience. In lieu of degree, a combined minimum of 7 years' education and/or relevant work experience, including a minimum of 3 years' systems analysis and/or application development work experience
  • Advanced proficiency in minimum of 1 relevant programming language.
  • Strong experience in Java development, system integration (e.g., REST/SOAP APIs, middleware, vendor integrations), and release/deployment engineering. This is required in lieu of Salesforce platform experience.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Salesforce/nCino platform development and release management experience (e.g., Apex, JavaScript, metadata deployments)
  • Advanced analytical skills specific to application development
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to multitask on complex projects
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • CI/CD and source control experience (GitLab or similar), including pipeline troubleshooting
  • Test automation experience (Postman, Zephyr, or similar)
  • Experience with application security scanning, vulnerability remediation, and certificate management
  • Experience with AI-assisted development and code quality tools
  • Familiarity with Azure cloud services and migration patterns
  • Experience with ITSM, change management, and privileged access processes
