About the company

Our client is a fast-growing software company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Design, build and run backend modules for a software platform, taking responsibility from early scoping through release and production support. Work alongside engineering and customer-facing colleagues to turn bespoke solutions into reusable products, including automated AI-driven workflows.

What you'll do

- Design and build backend platform modules that support business operations at scale.

- Take charge of a product area across its full lifecycle, with attention to reliability, security and low error rates.

- Collaborate with deployed engineers, customer success and technical leadership to generalize one-off solutions into reusable products.

- Develop and operate AI agents in production, adding testing, safeguards, monitoring and feedback mechanisms.

- Lead infrastructure initiatives from planning to rollout, such as internal tooling that lets non-technical colleagues set up custom modules.

- Shape data structures, processing pipelines and connections to third-party systems, including those that lack APIs.

- Handle on-call rotation and root-cause investigations for the systems you build.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- At least 4 years of backend or systems engineering experience, with 6 to 7 years ideal; full-stack is fine if backend-heavy.

- Experience running reliable, scalable production systems.

- A degree from a top engineering school or engineering experience at a high-caliber technology company.

- A history of taking a service or module from concept to stable production use on your own.

- Hands-on experience delivering LLM-based or agent-based features to production users, as an applied engineer rather than a model researcher.

- Daily use of AI coding tools.

- Comfort working independently in a fast-paced, in-person team.

- Ability to work on-site 5 days a week.

Bonus points

- Experience at a fast-growing startup.

- Experience with Python or TypeScript.

- Top engineering school background.

That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
