A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction. This Software development engineer III role is part of the Intelligent Applications team which sits within our Technology division. The Intelligent Applications team builds and scales AI-powered traveler and agent experiences, including virtual assistants and trip-planning capabilities, that make it easier for customers and service teams to find answers, resolve issues, and complete travel tasks more efficiently.

In this role, you will:
Design, develop, and deliver robust, scalable services and applications by writing high‑quality, maintainable code and tests across the full software development lifecycle. Own and evolve low‑level design, API contracts, and data models for services within your domain, ensuring reliability, performance, and clear integration patterns with other systems. Collaborate with product, architecture, and peer engineering teams to break down complex business and technical problems into actionable plans and incremental deliverables. Drive and uphold engineering best practices for code quality, observability, operational readiness, and security, including participating in design reviews, code reviews, and on‑call rotations as needed.
Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products. Work across multiple services or components in your domain, contributing to reusable patterns, libraries, and platforms that increase developer efficiency and support use cases across different product areas.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Several years of professional software development experience building and operating production services or applications in a collaborative engineering environment.
  • Proven experience owning the design and implementation of services or components, including low‑level system design, API design, and data modeling within a defined product or domain.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language and associated frameworks, along with solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience contributing to the reliability, performance, and maintainability of services through testing, monitoring, and operational best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and evolving distributed systems or multi‑service architectures, including clear API contracts, data models, and integration patterns at domain scope.
  • Demonstrated ability to use metrics, experimentation, and data analysis to inform technical decisions, optimize system behavior, and validate impact at scale.
  • Track record of improving operational excellence through automation, observability, incident response, and performance tuning for production systems.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products, including safely integrating AI/ML‑enabled features into existing services.
  • Experience leading technical solutions for complex projects within a domain, mentoring other engineers through design and implementation, and driving continuous improvement in engineering practices.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $146,000.00 to $204,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $233,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
