About the Role

Join the Maps Mobile Platform team and build the foundational geospatial engine that powers every Uber journey. Our team owns and ships the Map Display SDK and the entire product-facing Maps API layer within Uber's iOS monorepo, driving every map experience across the Rider, Driver, and Eats apps. By building resilient abstractions and high-leverage tools used daily by hundreds of internal mobile engineers, your work will directly accelerate engineering velocity and shape the real-world experiences of millions of global users.

What You Will Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain the Maps API layer and Map Display SDK that power all geospatial experiences across Uber’s iOS applications.
  • Architect intuitive, ergonomic, and rock-solid APIs that enable hundreds of product engineers to ship map features safely and rapidly.
  • Collaborate closely with feature teams across Rider, Driver, and Eats to uncover developer pain points and drive platform innovations.
  • Write robust, maintainable Swift and Objective-C code with a relentless focus on stability, backwards compatibility, and test coverage.
  • Diagnose, profile, and resolve complex platform-level regressions, memory leaks, and concurrency challenges.
  • Participate in technical design discussions and code reviews to continually elevate engineering excellence across the mobile platform.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience developing and shipping iOS applications or frameworks.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and system design.
  • Proficiency in Swift and Objective-C, paired with a solid grasp of the iOS SDK, runtime, and memory management.
  • Experience writing testable, production-ready code supported by comprehensive unit and integration test suites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing, distributing, and maintaining reusable iOS SDKs, libraries, or APIs utilized by large developer organizations.
  • Hands-on experience working in large-scale mobile monorepos and advanced build systems (e.g., Bazel, Buck).
  • Familiarity with mobile mapping technologies (e.g., Mapbox, Apple MapKit, Google Maps SDK) or low-level graphics frameworks like Metal.
  • Proven track record of profiling and optimizing mobile performance (CPU/GPU, frame drops, network I/O, and battery life) using Instruments.
  • Strong developer empathy and communication skills, with a passion for writing comprehensive developer documentation and sample code.
