About the company

Our client is a software company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Take ownership of designing and delivering core software systems from first concept through to production, working in a very small engineering group. The role blends backend development with deploying data-driven models, and includes helping define engineering standards as the group grows.

What you'll do

- Own the architecture and delivery of core systems, taking loosely defined problems all the way to maintained, shipped products.

- Work closely with company leadership to translate broad goals into technical plans and carry them through to release.

- Guide code quality by reviewing peers' work, defining testing expectations and steering technical direction.

- Take charge of bringing predictive models into dependable production use within the product.

- Diagnose and resolve defects, from routine bugs to deeper issues affecting speed, stability and scale.

- Strengthen delivery pipelines, automated testing and monitoring as the product and team expand.

- Contribute to shaping engineering culture and helping build out the team.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- Roughly 3 to 4 or more years of experience shipping production software.

- Advanced Python skills, applied to server-side systems running in production.

- Familiarity with common web frameworks and relational databases.

- Practical experience taking trained models live in a production environment.

- Previous time spent at an early-stage startup.

- Experience building a codebase from scratch and owning it from start to finish.

- Background developing desktop or native applications for Mac or Windows.

- Good judgment on design tradeoffs when given little guidance, and comfort with uncertainty.

- Clear communication and a collaborative approach to teamwork.

- Solid computer science fundamentals, with a bachelor's degree in a technical field.

Bonus points

- Exposure to gaming, CAD or 3D software work.

- Familiarity with a major cloud platform.

- Experience with C#/.NET.

- Experience packaging and distributing native desktop applications, including code signing.

- Deep infrastructure or DevOps experience at scale.
