Develop C++ tooling to verify autonomous systems through virtual testing, recorded-data replay, automated scoring, and regression detection. Build test frameworks, evaluation pipelines, and CI/CD integrations; investigate logs and telemetry to diagnose failures; convert field issues into reusable test cases; and collaborate with internal engineering teams to improve testing workflows.

About the company

Our client is a defense technology company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Create and own internal software tooling that lets engineers verify autonomy code without relying solely on field trials. The work spans scenario authoring, reuse of recorded data and automated scoring of results, with colleagues depending on the tooling every day.

What you'll do

- Develop dependable C++ tooling for virtual testing and for re-running recorded vehicle sessions against the latest software.

- Stitch together logged sensor data, virtual environments and production code so tests run automatically and can be repeated.

- Create test frameworks that check autonomous behavior with and without live feedback from the virtual environment.

- Define measurable scoring criteria, evaluation pipelines and automated checks that flag regressions early.

- Turn problems seen in real operations into reusable test cases so field experience feeds directly back into development.

- Investigate logs, telemetry and failed runs to pinpoint root causes and help get fixes shipped.

- Talk with internal teams who rely on the tooling about how hard it is to define and maintain test cases, and build improvements.

- Embed testing and evaluation tools into the build and release process, including continuous integration and delivery.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- A background building automated verification platforms for machines that combine software with physical hardware.

- Proven ability to ship production-grade software in C++.

- Experience creating systems that measure or validate performance quantitatively, including end-to-end data replay pipelines, ideally fed by vehicle sensor data.

- Working knowledge of concurrency, performance, reliability and Linux, along with awareness of where virtual or replayed behavior diverges from reality.

- Bachelor's degree.

- Ability to work on-site in a hybrid arrangement in Alameda, CA.

Bonus points

- Exposure to real-world autonomous platforms, whether vehicles, robots or aircraft.

- Python skills for scripting, data analysis or building test utilities.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
