Company Description

It started with a simple idea: what if surgery could be less invasive and recovery less painful? Nearly 30 years later, that question still fuels everything we do at Intuitive. As a global leader in robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive care, our technologies—like the da Vinci surgical system and Ion—have transformed how care is delivered for millions of patients worldwide.

We’re a team of engineers, clinicians, and innovators united by one purpose: to make surgery smarter, safer, and more human. Every day, our work helps care teams perform with greater precision and patients recover faster, improving outcomes around the world.

The problems we solve demand creativity, rigor, and collaboration. The work is challenging, but deeply meaningful—because every improvement we make has the potential to change a life.

If you’re ready to contribute to something bigger than yourself and help transform the future of healthcare, you’ll find your purpose here.

Job Description

We are looking for a leader who knows what great looks like to head Global Enterprise (Indirect) Procurement at Intuitive. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a leader in robotic-assisted surgery with a mission to improve outcomes for patients. Procurement plays a critical role in that mission by ensuring the people, services, technology and facilities behind our work are sourced with excellence, integrity and care.

It is also an opportunity to join a fantastic team with a great culture that focuses on the how as much as on the what. We want a leader who can build a compelling vision for the function, leads with integrity and humility, and is passionate about developing and caring for the team.

The Sr. Director is accountable for the global indirect spend portfolio and for building a best-in-class procurement function. The role drives measurable value through strategic sourcing, category management and supplier partnerships, makes buying simple for stakeholders, strengthens compliance and risk management, and uses data and AI to raise the function's impact.

Essential Job Duties

The Sr. Director, Head of Global Enterprise Procurement leads the global indirect procurement function, partners closely with Finance, Legal, IT, Operations and Commercial leaders, and is a trusted advisor to the executive team on spend, suppliers and third-party risk. The Sr. Director will:

Vision, Strategy and Leadership

  • Develop and communicate a clear multi-year vision and roadmap for a best-in-class function, including operating model, capabilities, technology and talent.
  • Lead, mentor and develop the team across procurement operations, sourcing, contracts, and travel and events, with clear performance measurement, career paths and succession plans.
  • Build an engaged, accountable team that acts with the highest integrity and cares about the how as much as the what.

Category Management and Strategic Sourcing

  • Own multi-year category strategies for all indirect spend, such as software and technology, professional services, contingent labor, facilities and MRO, marketing and logistics, built in partnership with business stakeholders.
  • Use in-depth spend analysis and company-wide purchasing volume to lead sourcing initiatives, negotiations and supply agreements that maximize cost, service, quality and supplier capability.
  • Shape demand upstream through standardization, policy and user education, and track value beyond savings, including stakeholder satisfaction, innovation and risk resilience.

Supplier Relationship and Risk Management

  • Rationalize the supplier base and build long-term partnerships with strategic suppliers, supported by a supplier performance and business review program.
  • Partner with Legal, Information Security, Quality and Compliance to manage supplier risk (financial, cyber, concentration, geopolitical and disruption) and to ensure contracts address regulatory and legal requirements.

Procurement Operations, Technology and Compliance

  • Continuously improve the source-to-pay lifecycle, including intake, sourcing, contracting, purchasing and payables, to reduce cost to serve, ease the stakeholder experience, and increase spend under management.
  • Champion data-driven decisions with dashboards and metrics for savings, compliance and customer satisfaction, and apply automation and AI where they add value.
  • Work with Accounting, Accounts Payable and FP&A for seamless procure-to-pay, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, SOPs, DOPs and SOX.

Travel and Events

  • Manage global travel and event services, working with Sales, Marketing, Finance and other stakeholders to provide exceptional service, minimize cost, and maximize user efficiency while providing an experience that reflects the company's culture.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • 15+ years of progressive procurement experience, including 10+ years in indirect procurement with global responsibility and 5+ years leading teams in a large, publicly traded or comparable environment.
  • Proven track record of delivering measurable value through category management and strategic sourcing, and of building or elevating a procurement organization with a clear vision and strong talent.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop high-performing teams, with a passion for developing and caring for people and a leadership style grounded in integrity and humility.
  • High commercial and financial acumen, with the gravitas to influence at the executive level and partner with Finance, Legal, IT and business leaders.
  • Seasoned negotiator with experience in complex, multi-million-dollar, multi-year agreements across diverse categories.
  • Strong data analytics skills, with a point of view on how AI and automation can transform procurement.
  • Expertise in source-to-pay systems and orchestration tools (Coupa preferred) and knowledge of procurement compliance, including SOX.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex sourcing issues into clear terms for suppliers, peers and senior leaders.
  • Medical device, life sciences or other regulated industry experience is helpful.
  • Willingness to travel 15-20%, including to Atlanta, Mexico, Europe and Asia Pacific.

Required Education and Training

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, finance, engineering or equivalent.
  • MBA or professional procurement certification (for example CPSM or CIPS) preferred.
