UCT is looking for a talented Sr Manager, Engineering to join our team in Fremont, CA! 

The Sr Engineering Manager may work in small, medium, and large businesses. The work is concerned with chemical and mechanical processes in which customer materials undergo change and involves scaling up processes from the laboratory into the processing plant. Responsibilities involve designing and developing, installing, and maintaining high volume manufacturing equipment, understanding the reactions taking place, installing control systems, and starting, running, and upgrading the processes. Environmental protection, health and safety aspects are also significant concerns. The ideal candidate must have good people and organizational management skills with demonstrated leadership ability.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages and maintains a balanced department possessing the necessary flexibility, technical skills, and experience to support short- and long-range requirements effectively.
  • Manages Engineering personnel, establishing priorities, schedules projects and duties of Design and Equipment Engineering. Ensures Engineering personnel perform required tasks, as required, on time as well as balances workloads across regions as required.
  • Manages and maintains key customer projects for NPI, CIP, and addresses with the necessary flexibility, technical skills, and experience to support short and long-range requirements effectively. Maintains and improves new product introduction standard operating procedures, checklists and NPI training.
  • Manages customer expectations, establishing priorities, maintains projects involving a variety of technical resources, including, Design, Equipment, Process, and R&D Engineering.
  • Develops new processes and procedures (including process controls as necessary) in conjunction with UCT R&D and submits reports/ to management for approval prior to implementation.
  • Recommends new facilities and equipment (or modifications to existing facilities and equipment) as necessary to improve safety, operating capacity, operating effectiveness, or operating costs. Responsible for design elements involved in modifications/new builds and effective implementation/ installation of design.
  • Manages the engineering activities to ensure timely introduction of new products, capital projects and new facility construction. Maintains gantt charts and milestone plans for project accordingly.
  • Schedules and tracks engineering projects/quotes to ensure timely completion.
  • Liaise with personnel in the purchasing, commercial, operations, engineering, and customer service function to ensure effective customer engineering support is provided.
  • Directs personnel in product improvement to reduce material costs and manufacturing labor content.
  • Directs personnel to insure Copy Exact procedures and practices are maintained and implemented across UCT engineering teams/sites
  • Directs personnel in the provisions of test procedures and fixtures for manufacturing product.
  • Coordinates with Director of Engineering for necessary capital expenditures.
  • Directs personnel to ensure all equipment and manufacturing operations meet required safety standards.
  • Appraises employees’ performance in accordance with established company policies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • The ideal candidate must have good people and organizational management skills with demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Advanced knowledge of all process workstations
  • Knowledgeable in Clean room protocols, and Micro contamination knowledge
  • Advanced understanding of semiconductor Processes (PVD, Etch, ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition), Diffusion, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Solidworks

 

Educational/Certification Requirement:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering

 

Experience Requirement:

 

Work Experience:

  • >10 years related experience in high-technology manufacturing, preferably in semiconductor capital equipment or related industry

  • The ability to talk on the phone and use a computer for extended periods of time may be required.

Environmental Exposure:

  • Required to wear personal protective equipment where applicable.
  • Subject to noise levels.
  • May involve exposure to moderate noise levels from printers, faxes, computer etc.

Overnight Travel:

  • Work may require out of town travel depending upon assignment (training and meeting).
