About the Role

Uber One is Uber's flagship membership program, serving more than 50 million members globally across Mobility, Delivery, Grocery, and other Uber experiences. Membership combines savings, benefits, priority experiences, and exclusive offerings while driving engagement, cross-platform adoption, and long-term retention.

The Membership Product Engineering organization includes 70+ engineers across Growth, Benefits, Retention, Engagement, Experimentation, and Membership Platform. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will provide hands-on technical leadership for the backend systems behind member-facing experiences, owning architecture for a major area of the Membership platform and working closely with Product and Data Science.

What You Will Do

  • Own architecture and technical direction for a major Membership area (for example benefits, savings and offers, membership lifecycle, or experimentation and presentation platforms).
  • Design and build high-QPS, low-latency, highly available services that power real-time member experiences, such as benefits, offers, savings, and engagement, across Mobility and Delivery.
  • Lead multi-quarter, multi-team projects from ambiguous requirements through global rollout and measurement.
  • Partner with Product, Data Science, Design, and client engineers (Web, iOS, Android) to turn growth, engagement, and retention goals into technical solutions.
  • Build platforms, reusable APIs, and frameworks that let teams launch and experiment on member experiences faster, improving conversion, engagement, and retention.
  • Raise the bar on reliability, observability, and operational excellence through design reviews and hands-on example.
  • Mentor senior engineers and grow technical leaders on your teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience delivering, scaling, and owning highly successful and innovative software products with your fingerprints all over them - you're extremely proud of what you've accomplished.
  • Proven record of engineering and coding skills. Ability to write high-performance production quality code. Experience in Go, Python, Java or other equivalent languages.
  • Perseverance to get things done with a focus on shipping online production systems. Roadblocks don't get in your way - they get you excited for the challenge.
  • A deep love of building elegant, maintainable, well-documented code. Abstracting and refactoring should be a passion, not a chore.
  • Drive to always learn new things and go above and beyond the call of duty.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Always working to improve yourself and constructively support the team around you.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building membership, subscription, loyalty, growth, or consumer engagement products.
  • Experience building consumer-facing products in real-time marketplaces at global scale.
  • Experience with experimentation (A/B testing, feature configuration), personalization, or configuration-driven product platforms.
  • Track record of translating consumer needs into measurable customer and business impact.
  • Experience with payments, pricing, or offers systems.
  • Ability to work across org boundaries and align teams on shared technical goals.
