PayZen is on a mission to bring financial health to healthcare. Our products improve both access and affordability for patients and cash flow and administrative complexity for medical providers. We are trusted by a rapidly growing number of health systems, hospitals, and physician groups and are backed by leading venture capital investors.

About the role

The Strategic Finance Manager will contribute to a diverse portfolio of strategic, data-driven initiatives to scale our operations and optimize financial performance. This role will play a critical part in influencing decision-making processes across the company, driving operational excellence and shaping the financial trajectory of our company.

The ideal candidate will embody a proactive and growth-oriented mindset, demonstrating high levels of self-motivation, analytical ability, and have a keen focus on driving results.

If you have a passion for problem-solving, are a collaborative team player, and possess a strong desire to help shape the future of a fast-growing startup, we would love to hear from you.

The role is based in our San Francisco headquarters and hybrid (in office Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday).

What you will do

  • Own three-statement financial modeling, monthly reporting cycles, and the scalable data architecture that provides actionable insights for executive leadership

  • Design AI agent workflows to automate repeatable finance tasks—such as revenue forecasting and variance analysis—increasing team capacity and precision.

  • Lead annual and long-range planning processes, translating corporate objectives into rigorous financial goals and business plans.

  • Develop frameworks to analyze business trends and identify the key performance metrics that influence company-wide decision-making.

  • Drive the analytical support and execution for equity and debt fundraising initiatives to ensure long-term growth and IPO readiness.

  • Manage external financial reporting and strategic analysis for board meetings and investor inquiries.

  • Serve as a trusted partner to senior stakeholders in GTM, Product, Legal, and other parts of the organization on financial planning, pricing strategies, and resource allocation.

To thrive in this role, you have

  • 7+ years of experience in investment banking, private equity, or strategic finance at a high-growth technology startup.

  • Exceptional financial modeling skills combined with a practical ability to build or configure automations (no-code or code) and integrate AI agents into financial data flows.

  • Demonstrated experience integrating AI into complex workflows (Cowork and Claude Code preferred).

  • Proven track record of owning outcomes with defined KPIs and making data-driven decisions in high-stakes environments.

  • Strong data visualization skills, with a continuous drive to seek process improvements and automate data quality checks (SQL a plus!).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact regularly with executive management and influence strategic policy.

What we offer

  • An opportunity to positively affect the lives of thousands of patients and be a part of a team that revolutionizes medical payments in ways never seen before

  • A chance to join a high-growth company at an early stage

  • Highly skilled co-workers with whom you can grow your skill set

  • The ability to impact company values and culture in a collaborative environment - we value all comments and suggestions

  • Competitive pay, healthcare, stock options, 401(k), flexible PTO
