About the role

Crunchyroll is seeking an SVP, Franchise & Title Strategy to transform great anime titles into enduring global franchises that deepen fandom over a lifetime.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this leader takes the baton after content has been acquired, shaping how titles are nurtured, prioritized, and activated across the Crunchyroll ecosystem. This role does not acquire or license content; it partners closely with the Chief Content Officer once titles enter the Crunchyroll portfolio to maximize their long-term potential.

The SVP, Franchise & Title Strategy will bring together Strategy, Marketing, Commercial lines of business, and Regional teams around a unified view of the portfolio—ensuring priority titles have clear franchise ambitions, the right level of investment, and coordinated activation across markets and fan touchpoints.

The goal is to turn exceptional stories into lasting relationships with fans and build franchises that can grow far beyond a single season or release.

Core Areas of Responsibility

Franchise & Portfolio Strategy

  • Lead Crunchyroll's global franchise strategy, defining how priority titles are developed into enduring franchises.
  • Establish franchise priorities, investment levels, and multi-year plans informed by fan insights, market opportunities, and performance.
  • Identify opportunities to extend franchises across Crunchyroll's businesses and deepen fan engagement throughout their lifecycle.

Global Title Marketing

  • Lead the Title Marketing Strategy function, setting the strategic direction and priorities for major releases.
  • Partner with Regional GMs and Marketing teams to translate global title strategies into locally relevant campaigns.
  • Develop plans that build audiences, engagement, and fandom before, during, and beyond launch.

Studio & Partner Marketing

  • Establish a B2B marketing strategy that reinforces Crunchyroll's value to studios, licensors, and rights holders.
  • Develop compelling partner narratives, insights, and case studies that demonstrate Crunchyroll's ability to grow audiences and franchises globally.
  • Strengthen partner relationships through strategic marketing initiatives and key industry moments.

Cross-Functional & Team Leadership

  • Align Content, Marketing, Regional teams, and commercial businesses around shared franchise priorities and goals.
  • Establish integrated planning across title marketing, localization, regional activation, commercial businesses, and franchise development.
  • Build and lead a high-performing global team, with clear decision-making, portfolio governance, and accountability.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, high standards, and continuous improvement focused on fans, creators, and business outcomes.
About You

We get excited about candidates, like you, because...

  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in entertainment, media, streaming, games, consumer products, franchise management, or another IP-driven business.
  • Proven success building and growing entertainment franchises over multiple years, with a strong understanding of how to extend IP beyond individual releases.
  • Strong strategic and commercial judgment, with experience identifying portfolio opportunities, setting investment priorities, and developing long-term franchise growth plans.
  • Experience growing franchises across streaming, theatrical, games, commerce, consumer products, publishing, events, and other fan experiences.
  • Deep experience partnering with creators, studios, publishers, licensors, and rights holders, ideally including Japanese partners.
  • Strong international experience, with the ability to balance global franchise ambitions, partner priorities, and local market needs.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams, aligning Content, Marketing, Product, Commercial, and Regional leaders around shared goals.
  • Native to business-level proficiency in Japanese and English.
  • Direct anime and Japanese entertainment experience is highly desirable. Candidates from adjacent fandom-driven businesses should bring strong franchise-building experience and an understanding of creator and rights-holder relationships.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience required. Demonstrated results and industry expertise will be valued more heavily than academic background.
