Location: Berkeley, CA

We are looking for a Systems Engineer to join our team and bridge the gap between complex subsystem designs and high-level product architecture. You will be responsible for defining the technical requirements, interfaces, and integration strategies that ensure our large-scale energy storage systems operate reliably and safely. This role requires a holistic mindset, strong collaboration across multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, controls, and manufacturing), and a drive to solve tough technical challenges in service of our clean energy mission.

Responsibilities
    • Define and manage system-level requirements, functional specifications, and interface control documents for core battery system architecture.
    • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineering teams to ensure subsystem designs are seamlessly integrated and meet performance targets.
    • Lead system-level validation and integration testing, developing test plans that verify safety, reliability, and functionality under diverse operating conditions.
    • Perform trade-off analyses to optimize system performance, cost, and manufacturability, identifying potential risks early in the development lifecycle.
    • Conduct root cause analysis for complex system-level failures, working cross-functionally to implement effective engineering solutions.
    • Decompose requirements and functions from system-level down to component-level, ensuring traceability.

Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or equivalent) with 3+ years of professional experience.
    • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements management, interface definition, and lifecycle development.
    • Experience in multidisciplinary integration, preferably in power electronics, battery systems, or large-scale electro-mechanical hardware.
    • Proficiency with electrical battery systems.
    • Proficiency with technical modeling and documentation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, SysML, or similar) to manage system architecture and performance data.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to bridge communication gaps between specialized engineering domains and non-technical stakeholders.

Salary Range
    • $115,000-130,000
    • The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience
