As Tax Director – State and Local Tax you’ll join our growing State & Local Tax (SALT) practice. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex SALT consulting engagements, drive innovative tax planning strategies, and provide guidance on nexus, income and franchise taxes, sales and use tax, tax credits and incentives, and state tax controversy matters. As a Tax Director within the practice, you will shape client relationships, mentor and develop tax professionals, and contribute to the continued growth and success of BPM's expanding SALT practice.

Note: Candidates residing within a commutable distance from one of BPM’s offices, will be expected to work a hybrid schedule

Responsibilities:

    • Manage and deliver income tax and indirect tax consulting and compliance engagements for a variety of clients and industries
    • Conduct nexus studies, taxability analyses, and exposure reviews
    • Advise clients on multi-state income tax and indirect tax issues, including audit defense and voluntary disclosure agreements (VDAs)
    • Research and interpret state tax laws, regulations, and rulings
    • Identify opportunities for tax savings, process improvements, and risk mitigation
    • Lead and mentor staff and seniors, providing coaching, feedback, and technical development
    • Build and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor
    • Collaborate with other tax and advisory service lines on cross-functional opportunities
    • Support business development activities, including proposals and networking efforts

Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s or MBA preferred)
    • CPA, JD, or MST preferred
    • 9+ years of experience in public accounting or industry, with a focus on state and local tax issues.
    • Strong knowledge of multi-state tax regulations and compliance
    • Proven experience managing engagements and supervising staff
    • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
