Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead - SAP Commerce (Hybris) to lead enterprise-scale SAP Commerce initiatives, including application development, enhancements, AMS support and platform modernization programs. The ideal candidate will possess strong SAP Commerce technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to drive operational excellence.

The role requires close collaboration with business stakeholders, architects, product owners, and delivery teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing eCommerce solutions.

Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership
  • Lead the design, development, and enhancement of SAP Commerce (Hybris) applications.

  • Define SAP Commerce technical architecture and implementation approaches aligned with business objectives, approved platform standards, integration patterns, security expectations, and performance requirements.

  • Own technical solutioning for SAP Commerce support and enhancement demand, including solution options, effort estimates, dependencies, risks, and recommended implementation approaches.

  • Review solution designs, architecture decisions, and implementation approaches to ensure adherence to SAP Commerce best practices before development begins.

  • Assess scope changes for technical impact, including architecture, integration, performance, security, testing, deployment, and supportability implications.

  • Maintain current architecture and design documentation covering SAP Commerce customizations, integrations, extensions, deployment patterns, and operational dependencies.

  • Drive code quality, performance optimization, security, maintainability, and technical debt reduction through engineering standards, review discipline, refactoring, and continuous improvement.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to development and support teams.

Stakeholder Partnership
  • Own the technical health of SAP Commerce business applications by monitoring stability, performance, maintainability, recurring issues, and improvement opportunities.

  • Define and maintain an improvement roadmap aligned with business priorities, automation opportunities, platform optimization needs, and measurable value realization.

  • Review business capability KPIs and application-health trends monthly to identify improvement actions, risks, and technical priorities.

  • Act as the technical point of contact for business stakeholders, product owners, project managers, and delivery teams, providing timely technical clarifications, solution recommendations, dependency resolution, and trade-off analysis for SAP Commerce solution decisions.

  • Participate in client discussions, solution workshops, and strategic planning sessions to present technical recommendations, roadmap proposals, and modernization opportunities.

Application Development & Support
  • Manage SAP Commerce feature development, enhancements, integrations, and defect resolution from technical analysis through implementation, testing support, deployment, and stabilization.

  • Support production environments, lead critical incident management, and drive root-cause fixes that reduce recurring incidents and production defect leakage.

  • Establish and maintain technical governance processes, documentation standards, operational controls, and audit-ready evidence for SAP Commerce support-and-build engagements.

  • Ensure technical governance standards are consistently applied across design, development, testing, release, and support activities.

  • Review SLA, incident, defect, release, and performance trends to identify stability risks and continuous improvement actions.

  • Improve mean time to restore service by strengthening incident response, triage, escalation, monitoring, and technical recovery practices.

  • Ensure releases meet defined quality gates, deployment readiness criteria, rollback preparedness, and performance expectations before production deployment.

Team Leadership
  • Conduct regular code reviews across SAP Commerce customizations, extensions, integrations, and APIs to ensure adherence to SAP Commerce best practices, coding standards, security guidelines, performance expectations, and maintainability requirements.

  • Build the team capability roadmap, including hiring support, onboarding, certification targets, knowledge-sharing plans, mentoring, and succession planning for critical SAP Commerce skills.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, team engagement, and retention.

  • Break approved demand into executable technical work, assign work across Senior Developers and Developers, and remove delivery blockers to maintain engineering flow.

  • Support capacity planning across support, enhancement, defect resolution, and release work by providing realistic technical estimates and resource demand inputs.

  • Monitor engineering productivity through sprint predictability, code review turnaround, build success rate, engineering utilization, and rework reduction.

  • Coach Senior Developers and Developers through design walkthroughs, code reviews, pairing, troubleshooting, and structured technical knowledge-sharing sessions.

Required Skills & Experience1. SAP Commerce Expertise
  • 7+ years of hands-on SAP Commerce (Hybris) experience.

  • SAP Commerce Cloud Platform Architecture

  • Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot

  • SAP Commerce OCC APIs

  • REST/SOAP Web Services

  • Microservices Architecture

  • Integration Patterns and Middleware

  • Database Technologies (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL)

  • Git, Jenkins, CI/CD implementation and DevSecOps practices

  • SAP Cloud Portal

2. Integration Experience:  Experience integrating SAP Commerce with:
  • SAP S/4HANA

  • SAP ECC

  • SAP CPI

  • Payment Gateways

  • Third-Party Services

  • CRM and Marketing Platforms

  • Third-Party Services

3. Technical Experience
  • Experience conducting architecture reviews, code reviews, security reviews, performance assessments, technical impact assessments, release readiness reviews, and root-cause analysis for SAP Commerce changes.

  • Ability to manage technical delivery metrics such as estimation accuracy, build success rate, code review turnaround time, sprint predictability, rework rate, release success rate, mean time to restore, performance SLA compliance, and defect leakage.

4. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing both AMS and project delivery engagements.

  • Exposure to large-scale B2B commerce implementations.

  • Knowledge of SAP Commerce Cloud migration programs.

  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and SAFe methodologies.

  • SAP Commerce certification preferred.
