Why this role matters

Meter is rebuilding enterprise networking from the ground up. This role sits on the People team, and our mission is simple: help every person at Meter do the best work of their career. Workplace Ops is a big part of how we deliver on that. A great office doesn't just function– it energizes people, makes them proud to come in, and removes the small frictions that add up over time.

What you'll own

You're the person who keeps Workplace Operations running independently. That means vendors managed proactively, facilities issues resolved before employees notice them, and open items closed without leadership following up. You're also the first face people see when they walk in, and that matters too. The office should always feel like a place employees are proud to bring guests– that's the baseline, not the goal.

On any given week you might be coordinating an HVAC repair, planning a team event, making sure the office is set up and ready to welcome 5 new hires on their first day, and staying on top of a dozen other things at once. The variety is real, and so is the ownership.

And if you're exceptional at it, there's more. We just opened in Sunnyvale, and NYC and London are next. The person who masters SF has the opportunity to help us build the playbook for how Meter scales its office experience and operations globally.

What success looks like

At three months, you know the office cold. Vendors, open issues, rhythms, preferences. Leadership rarely has to follow up because you're already on it.

At six months, the function runs independently. You're anticipating problems, not reacting to them. People trust your judgment without needing to pressure-test your work.

At one year, you've raised the bar on what the Meter office experience looks and feels like. You're improving the function, not just maintaining it.

Who you are

You embody our culture of kindness, ambition, optimism, and paranoia, and take pride in creating environments where people feel welcomed and supported. The people you'll work with are genuinely kind and care deeply about doing great work. It's a supportive team that wants you to succeed, and expects the same ambition from you in return.

Additionally, you have good taste. You notice when something is off, you know what great looks like, and you care enough to fix it.

Beyond that:

  • You synthesize information and come with a recommendation, not just a summary of what happened

  • You carry context forward, prior decisions, established patterns, vendor history, without needing to be reminded

  • You know the difference between a decision you can make and one that needs alignment, and you act accordingly

  • You follow through on straightforward next steps without someone checking in

  • You communicate clearly, in person and in writing, and people always know where things stand

Why Meter

The internet runs the world. Every email you send, purchase you make, video call you join -- it's all packets flowing through networks. But those networks haven't changed for decades. They're brittle, complex, and surprisingly hard to set up in an enterprise space.

We started Meter to build better networks. We had to build everything from the ground up: designing and building our own enterprise hardware, intuitive software, and streamlined operations to deliver great outcomes for our customers. Today, we build and deploy these networks at scale. Ambitious companies and enduring institutions like Bridgewater, Lyft, and Reddit rely on Meter to keep their thousands of employees and locations online and productive.

Our bet with Meter is simple: we will all use the internet more than we do today. We believe we have the definitive networking stack in place to enable businesses to do so as seamlessly and reliably as any modern utility.

We’re committed to building a diverse, inclusive team and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply. If you’re a California resident, you can learn more about how we handle applicant data here.

Compensation
  • The estimated pay range for this role is $85,000-$115,000

  • Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Meter's equity plan

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
