About the company

Our client is a technology company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Own the backend side of a cloud platform, shaping services, interfaces and data storage that keep operational data flowing reliably. Much of the work involves improving and extending an established codebase that spans several repositories, with responsibility running from initial design through live operation.

What you'll do

- Build and run cloud-hosted services that collect, transform, persist and serve data coming from remote equipment.

- Take charge of initiatives that cut across repositories in a mature codebase, fixing defects, restructuring code and strengthening it as load grows.

- Collaborate with a manager and with colleagues focused on user interfaces so that dependent applications and operators get the interfaces they need.

- Write server-side code and interfaces in Python and TypeScript that bridge field equipment on unreliable networks and the tools people use to oversee it.

- Drive schema and database design for operational and device-derived data, carrying it from first sketch to production launch.

- Release, observe and troubleshoot workloads on AWS, raising resilience, capacity, visibility and tolerance for late or partial data.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- Solid proficiency in both Python and TypeScript.

- A bachelor's degree.

- About 4 to 8 years of experience running production cloud and distributed systems; more senior engineers with relevant hands-on skills are also welcome.

- Track record of working through unfamiliar older code across several repositories with a high degree of independence.

- Strong backend and database fundamentals, including API and distributed service design and data modeling.

- Experience with AWS or another major cloud provider.

- Comfort working in the defense industry.

- Ability to commute to the office in the SF Bay Area 3 days a week; relocation support is not offered.

Bonus points

- Background owning production cloud or distributed services from build to operation.

- Exposure to robotics, aerospace, IoT or other systems that interact with the physical world.

- Familiarity with live data feeds, telemetry or location-based data.
