Job Description

The Innovation, Insights & Transformation (IIT) group partners closely with the AbbVie executive team to advance key strategic priorities across the organization. The work of this team plays a vital role in shaping AbbVie's continued growth and success.

The Director of AI Transformation will lead critical change initiatives that enable AbbVie’s long-term strategic and operational objectives. This role is responsible for shaping, leading, and sustaining comprehensive transformation programs in partnership with executive leaders, ensuring alignment with business priorities and driving significant improvements in business outcomes, operational efficiency, and organizational agility.

The Director will be accountable for leading high-performing teams, fostering talent development, and ensuring effective cross-functional collaboration. The Director will serve as an advisor to senior stakeholders and executive leadership. Focus areas may include functional strategy, the deployment and impact of AI/ML solutions, business process change or operating models.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in the leadership and change management skills, a demonstrated passion for leading teams to deliver enterprise-wide impact, especially with new technologies and in the biopharma industry. In return, the Transformation Team offers the opportunity to lead high-profile, high-impact projects and further develop executive leadership capabilities across the drug development and commercialization value chain.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for enterprise-wide AI-driven, and non-AI, transformation initiatives, ensuring these projects align with AbbVie's long-term commercial and operational goals.
  • Collaborate with executive stakeholders across Commercial, R&D, Operations, IT, and other areas to identify critical business needs, guide AI adoption roadmaps, and remove implementation barriers.
  • Advance complex initiatives including researching and problem-solving with stakeholders, distilling insights and pragmatic recommendations to inform data-backed solutions to mission-critical topics for AbbVie’s future success.
  • Build, lead, and mentor high performing teams with expertise in AI, analytics, and change management, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare executive-level communications and present recommendations to AbbVie leadership.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, inclusion, and agility within AbbVie.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or equivalent degree required. Advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, MBA) highly preferred.
  • Minimum years of experience: 8+ with Bachelors, 6+ with Masters, and/or 4+ with Doctorate
  • Highly preferred: experience with AI applications and their deployment at enterprise scale. Professional experience at a product-focused technology company, especially with an AI/ML focused role
  • Experience managing large projects within a complex matrixed organization as a consultant to a pharmaceutical organization, either as an external consultant or an internal cross-functional lead.
  • Demonstrated ability to present data and metrics to executive leadership teams that will lead to better business outcomes.
  • Recognized team player with proven facilitative leadership skills in a cross-functional global team environment. Proven performance in a matrix environment with ability to influence and align stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.  Ability to interact externally and internally to support business strategy.
  • Strong analytical skills. Recognized ability to evaluate complex issues from multiple perspectives to ensure that balanced risk assessments are made.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • This role is a hybrid work model requiring three (3) days onsite, Tuesday through Thursday, in the respective AbbVie offices.

  • This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs. ​
