MANAGER, EVENTS (SAN FRANCISCO)

Bain Capital Ventures (BCV) is a partnership within Bain Capital, one of the world's largest private investment firms with $215B under management and 19 offices across 4 continents. BCV invests in outlier founders across stages from its offices in San Francisco, Palo Alto, and New York. BCV has helped launch and grow over 400 companies across 20+ years in business, including Cognition, Crusoe, Decagon, Docusign, Flywire, Kiva Systems, Jet.com, LinkedIn, Moveworks, Rapid7, and Redis. As part of Bain Capital, one of the world's largest private financial institutions, BCV delivers targeted support at every stage of the company-building journey.

ABOUT THE HIVE

The Hive, BCV's Platform arm, is purpose-built to serve founders with their most pressing needs: recruiting A-players, sharpening the narrative, and getting it in front of customers. Instead of the standard platform team at every VC firm, The Hive is built differently with a hands-on, action-oriented approach that eschews playbooks in favor of partnership.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Bain Capital Ventures executes 100+ events each year, ranging from intimate dinners and salons on key topics within the tech industry, to large tentpole gatherings like Inflection for BCV founders, BCV Labs for early technical builders, Emerge for fund managers, and Convergence for large companies and founders to mix.

BCV’s San Francisco office is its hub, with a majority of investors based locally. This role will span both strategic event planning and ideation, and tactical event execution across a range of experiences from small to large.

Sitting within the marketing team, this role collaborates heavily with the rest of the events team, design, communications and brand, as well as investors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and flawlessly execute ~2-3 small dinners per week, and 4-5 large events per year
  • Develop creative and forward-thinking ways to engage early stage founders on behalf of BCV
  • Curate special experiences for communities that are central to BCV’s success
  • Maintain the team’s budget, as events are the major cost center within the marketing organization
  • Work cross-functionally with BCV’s investing team and The Hive (platform team), as well as broader Bain Capital’s Boston-based events and marketing team on targeted events
  • Oversee community-building efforts, managing lists, and other ways to keep event attendees connected and engaged after the in-person experience ends

ABOUT YOU

Are you obsessed with building community and helping people forge meaningful connections? Do you have strong opinions about the style, taste, and vibes required for a great event? Do you eat, sleep, and breathe tech? Do you love a good workback plan, budget, and Notion tracker? Do you do a little dance inside when someone posts a picture of your event and says it was awesome? If so, this role has your name on it!

  • Collaborative: Everyone wants to work with you because you’re so effective and love input from across the firm
  • Energetic: Upbeat, positive and hard-working, our ideal Events Manager is always “on”
  • Detail-oriented: Juggling venues, photographers, and magicians (no joke!) is not for the weak… you know your way around a spreadsheet and a GANTT chart
  • Outgoing: Often the first face our founders see at events, you love to help people feel welcome and at home at your events
  • Curious: You’re always looking to learn about the latest in tech, from inference and post-training to robotics and pharma
  • Unflappable: Florist flaked last-minute? No problem. You’ll call someone to run to Trader Joe’s and no one will be the wiser
  • Seasoned: 5-7 years of relevant work curating experiences, events, and communities of founders

LOCATION

Candidates must be based near our San Francisco office near Jackson Square with an expectation of 3-4 days per week in the office.

COMPENSATION

The base salary range for this role is $150,000-$210,000 dependent on experience. In addition, this role is eligible for BCV’s annual bonus program and profit-sharing plan.

What you need to know about the San Francisco Tech Scene

San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area attracts more startup funding than any other region in the world. Home to Stanford University and UC Berkeley, leading VC firms and several of the world’s most valuable companies, the Bay Area is the place to go for anyone looking to make it big in the tech industry. That said, San Francisco has a lot to offer beyond technology thanks to a thriving art and music scene, excellent food and a short drive to several of the country’s most beautiful recreational areas.

Key Facts About San Francisco Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 365,500; 13.9% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Google, Apple, Salesforce, Meta
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, fintech, consumer technology, software
  • Funding Landscape: $50.5 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures, Kleiner Perkins
  • Research Centers and Universities: Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; University of San Francisco; Santa Clara University; Ames Research Center; Center for AI Safety; California Institute for Regenerative Medicine
