Overview

AI is transforming how software is designed, built, tested, and maintained. Join our team to shape language-specific GitHub Copilot workflows that empower developers for an AI-first world.

We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to drive key initiatives across Python and Java developer experiences. This role will identify the highest-impact problems for developers and translate customer and product signals into a focused strategy for tools and services that support both human developers and AI agents. You will validate that strategy through prototypes, experiments, and measurable product outcomes, helping developers move from intent to reliable software with greater speed and confidence.

As an individual contributor, you will collaborate with engineers, data scientists, designers, developer advocates, and product teams across the language and runtime space. You will experiment, learn with customers, and build the next generation of developer tools while ensuring stakeholders understand the strategic direction and the why behind each investment.

You will join a team that measures success through customer and business outcomes, builds alongside our customers and the communities we serve, creates leverage through shared context and tools, and learns continuously so everyone can contribute at a higher level.

Does this sound like you?

  • You are passionate about programming languages and developer tools.

  • You care deeply about Python and Java developers and understand how they interact with languages, libraries, frameworks, runtimes, and the broader development ecosystem.

  • You think strategically across multiple horizons. You balance a vision for how software development may evolve over the next several years with focused experiments and concrete steps to create customer value today.

  • You are a product builder. You move from customer problem to specification to working prototype, write code when useful, use the experiences you build, and evaluate whether they solve meaningful problems for developers.

  • You are fluent in AI-assisted development. You regularly use tools such as GitHub Copilot to prototype, evaluate, debug, and improve developer workflows. You assess output quality, identify product and technical tradeoffs, and explore how humans and agents can work together effectively.

  • You learn directly from customers and product signals. You engage through customer calls, community conversations, GitHub issues, interviews, user studies, and usage data, then turn those insights into product decisions and measurable improvements.

  •  You bring people together around excellent developer experiences. You collaborate across design, engineering, data science, and advocacy, communicate the reasoning behind product decisions, and share what you learn through demos, documentation, technical content, developer events, and community engagement.

If many of these sound like you, you may be exactly who we need. Join us to shape the future of development and let’s build the next generation of software for humans and agents.

Take the next step and apply now!

Responsibilities

Here is what you will do and learn to be successful in this role:

  • Drive product strategy: Define and own the product strategy for Python and Java developer tools, language-specific GitHub Copilot developer workflows, and AI-first experiences. Translate the strategy into roadmaps, organizational alignment, measurable success criteria, and go-to-market plans.

  • Innovate and execute: Conduct market and customer research to identify new opportunities and anticipate future developer needs. Partner with engineering on technical product decisions across languages and runtimes, especially for AI-powered experiences that serve both human developers and agents.

  • Apply product and design judgment: Define clear end-to-end experiences, make deliberate tradeoffs, account for edge cases and quality, and focus the team on the opportunities most likely to create meaningful customer value.

  • Collaborate and lead: Partner across disciplines, teams, and organizations to deliver cohesive developer experiences. Champion the needs of Python and Java developers while coordinating with language, runtime, GitHub Copilot, design, engineering, advocacy, and other product partners.

  • Build deep developer empathy: Write code, use daily builds of developer tools, and maintain zero distance to customers through feedback channels, social media, interviews, user studies, and direct engagement with developer communities.

  • Engage customers and communities: Work closely with early adopters and strategic customers to validate direction and identify unmet needs. Partner with advocacy teams on demos, documentation, talks, tutorials, conference planning, and community presence to drive adoption and excitement.

  • Make evidence-driven decisions: Establish metrics and analyze usage data to measure success. Design experiments that validate hypotheses and enable rapid iteration on developer workflows. Use insights to improve product quality, user satisfaction, and investment decisions.

  • Stay current: Track emerging AI and developer tooling trends. Apply what you learn to amplify our team productivity and inform future investments in AI-first developer experiences.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 5+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development OR equivalent experience.

Preferred qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Product Manager with a strong technical background, preferably with experience in Python or Java development and interest in developing depth across multiple languages.
  • Demonstrated experience leading product initiatives from concept to launch and through iterations.

  • Strong analytical mindset and experience using qualitative and quantitative insights to guide product decisions.

  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted developer tools, including GitHub Copilot developer experiences.

  • Interest in coding, language tooling and runtimes, with the ability to engage credibly in technical product discussions.
