Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own.
We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,700 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. Read our operating principles to see it in full.
Our Infrastructure & Productivity team builds the platforms that help Airwallex engineers move faster, ship higher-quality software, and operate reliably. You'll work across developer productivity, AI-enabled automation, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure to improve how engineering teams build and deliver software.
Enhance developer productivity by using AI and machine learning to streamline developer workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and improve code quality across the engineering organization.
Design, implement, and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines to increase software delivery efficiency, reduce build times, and improve deployment frequency.
Build and maintain scalable internal developer platforms and tooling, including messaging platforms, observability systems, and workflow automation tools used by engineering teams across Airwallex.
Drive infrastructure reliability and operational excellence through monitoring, alerting, incident management, on-call participation, and postmortems for P1/P2 incidents.
Partner with engineering teams across Airwallex to identify productivity bottlenecks, understand their needs, and deliver tooling that improves the developer experience.
Write clean, well-tested code, contribute to technical standards and documentation, and champion quality gates and change-management practices.
You'll work from our Seattle office three days a week.
Experience with common design patterns and designing and developing large-scale, distributed, highly concurrent, highly loaded, and highly available systems.
Strong knowledge of server technologies, including the ability to optimize service response and data queries while solving for high concurrency and high availability.
Strong proficiency in backend programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, Kotlin, Rust, or Node.js and their corresponding frameworks.
5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines, developer tooling, or platform infrastructure at scale.
A track record of technical leadership, architectural decision-making, and mentoring across teams.
Hands-on experience with cloud services such as AWS, GCP, or Aliyun, and infrastructure management tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, and Docker.
Strong system design skills, with the ability to define and own the technical strategy for a team or domain while balancing performance, scalability, maintainability, and cost.
Experience reviewing RFCs and providing deep insights on high-quality system designs.
Experience using AI/ML tools or integrating LLMs to improve developer workflows, automate code review, or accelerate engineering productivity.
Familiarity with AI-powered development tools such as Cursor or Copilot.
Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, or the ELK stack.
Experience operating production infrastructure with strong incident response practices.
Experience moving quickly and growing in dynamic, collaborative, and ambiguous environments, including proposing solutions across diverse groups of decision-makers.
Experience in platform engineering or developer experience at a technology or fintech company.
A data-driven approach to measuring and improving developer productivity, such as tracking build times, deployment frequency, or developer NPS.
You own the outcome and you don't wait for permission to fix what's broken.
You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and moving quickly anyway.
You’re comfortable with ambiguity. Give you a problem, not a prescription, and you'll run with it.
You enjoy working closely with people across multiple countries and time zones as part of one connected, global team, including flexing your hours occasionally to make that connection work.
You value in-person collaboration and are happy being in the office three days a week.
You say what you mean. You're direct, but you lead with respect.
You know when to align and when to just decide. Collaboration isn't a way to avoid accountability.
You connect dots across functions and hold the big picture without losing grip on the details.
The Infrastructure & Productivity team at Airwallex builds the technical foundation that allows our global engineering organization to scale. Our customers are our fellow engineers, and our mission is to make their daily work faster, safer, and more effective by managing the core platforms everyone relies on, from Kubernetes and Kafka to CI/CD pipelines and observability systems. The real challenge lies in keeping these global systems highly reliable and secure while simultaneously optimizing cloud costs, automating manual support, and driving standardization without slowing down product delivery. We operate under the philosophy that best practices should be the path of least resistance, not a forced mandate. If you're a systems thinker who wants to work close to the core of the company and directly shape how we build, deploy, and scale software worldwide, this is where that work happens.

AI Engineering

Our SF AI Engineering team at Airwallex is building production-grade AI that automates the hardest parts of global finance — from payments and onboarding to reconciliation, bookkeeping, and tax. Sitting on top of our proprietary global payments infrastructure and massive real-time transaction datasets, we design and ship vertical AI systems — from LLM-powered copilots and agentic workflows to fine-tuned models — that reach customers quickly and at scale. We’re a small, senior, zero-ego group with high ownership: engineers work end to end from problem framing and experimentation through to deployment and evals, using the right tool for the job to turn deep AI work into visible, shipped impact.
