About the company

Our client is a software company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Engineer the billing and payment layer of a software product, covering subscriptions, recurring and consumption charges, access rights and several payment processors. The role suits a senior engineer who can carry a critical area from design into production and keep refining it at pace.

What you'll do

- Take full responsibility for how the business collects payment, covering plans, recurring billing, access rights, credit adjustments and one-time charges.

- Architect a single payments layer that ties several processors and local payment options together, letting customers pay in their own currency while lowering processing fees.

- Create consumption-based charging that tracks usage, deducts from prepaid balances and bills excess amounts, built either on a third-party platform or internally.

- Build payment features that let customers of the product charge their own end users.

- Improve the throughput and resilience of the charging stack as transaction counts climb, handling provider callbacks, retry logic and ledger matching.

- Partner with leadership to design and run tests on prices and plan structure, then release changes rapidly to lift revenue.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- Roughly two to ten years of engineering work on payments or monetization teams in subscription software or consumer products.

- Hands-on production work connecting two or more payment processors.

- Experience building usage-based or credit-based billing alongside subscriptions and entitlements.

- Ability to take a critical system from first design to full ownership in a quick-moving startup.

- Proven record of releasing payments functionality to paying users and refining it afterward.

Bonus points

- Experience building a unified multi-provider payments layer.

- Experience with a usage-billing platform.

- Experience supporting international payment methods and currencies.

- Experience running pricing or packaging experiments.

- One or more years at a fast-growing startup, with time at your own startup counting.

- Experience with TypeScript, Postgres or React.
