Leads Gusto’s internal controls function across business process and IT controls. Builds the team and ICFR strategy, oversees risk assessment, control design, testing, remediation, governance, and external auditor relationships. Partners with Accounting, Finance, Product, Engineering, Data, Security, and Risk to embed scalable controls into complex systems and financial processes. Establishes AI-enabled controls practices and oversight for AI-related risks, while reporting program effectiveness to senior leadership and the Audit Committee.

Own end-to-end product design for Gusto’s Money, Banking, Retirement, or HR Experiences teams. Responsibilities include framing ambiguous problems, shaping product roadmaps, designing accessible and trustworthy AI-enabled experiences, conducting customer research, evolving design systems, and collaborating with product, engineering, and data teams. The role requires strong craft, systems thinking, judgment around AI uncertainty and human handoffs, and experience shipping products in high-trust or regulated domains.

Lead organization-wide technical initiatives for Gusto’s API and AI agent platform. Design reliable, scalable API contracts and agent-facing tools, write clean Ruby on Rails code, mentor engineers, improve reliability and observability, engage developer customers, and troubleshoot production issues.

Own paid social strategy and execution across Meta, LinkedIn, Reddit, Quora, TikTok, and emerging channels. Manage multimillion-dollar budgets, full-funnel campaigns, attribution, forecasting, creative testing, and pipeline performance. Lead AI-powered marketing workflows, evaluate new media channels, and develop acquisition playbooks. Partner with web, brand, engineering, product marketing, sales, communications, and integrated marketing teams to improve tracking, conversion, creative strategy, and revenue outcomes.

Conduct complex enhanced due diligence and KYC investigations for high-risk customers and entities. Research adverse media, sanctions, PEPs, source of wealth and funds, beneficial ownership, and geographic or industry risks. Prepare investigative summaries and SARs, resolve escalated alerts, make risk-based onboarding and exit recommendations, validate AI-generated research, improve investigative workflows, and mentor junior analysts.

Conduct complex fraud investigations involving account takeover, business email compromise, identity theft, payment fraud, and social engineering. Analyze transaction, authentication, communication, and external intelligence data; document investigative narratives; prepare Unusual Activity Referrals; recommend risk-based remediation; support customer and fund recovery efforts; use AI-enabled tools; collaborate with Risk, Compliance, Product, Engineering, and Data Science; and mentor junior analysts.

Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Gusto’s Payroll Platform. Define APIs, shared interfaces, platform boundaries, adoption metrics, and migration strategies. Lead cross-functional work with engineering, design, data, compliance, partners, and internal teams. Build trustworthy payroll controls, audit trails, and evaluations for AI agents, while connecting platform reliability and adoption to customer outcomes.

Build and operate AWS cloud infrastructure using Terraform/OpenTofu and Spacelift. Lead multi-account architecture migrations, develop reusable infrastructure modules, improve reliability and disaster recovery, support compliance, troubleshoot cloud environments, and automate recurring issues. Partner with engineering teams, strengthen observability and incident response, and participate in an internal infrastructure support on-call rotation. The role also drives multi-quarter platform initiatives with significant autonomy.

Own the end-to-end PEO onboarding experience, from discovery through setup. Set technical direction, design durable full-stack solutions, integrate systems across teams, and improve conversion through funnel instrumentation and experimentation. Build in a regulated domain with strong quality, testing, and observability standards. Use AI tools in engineering workflows and develop AI-assisted customer guidance. Influence cross-functional partners and raise engineering standards across the team.

Build and own backend services and APIs supporting retirement money movement, payments, settlements, reconciliation, compliance integrations, payroll, and financial workflows. The role involves shipping reliable production code, debugging incidents, improving observability, partnering with product, compliance, and operations, and mentoring engineers. Candidates should have extensive software engineering experience, financial systems expertise, end-to-end ownership, and Ruby on Rails or comparable backend framework experience.
